Hey armor whores!

Do you EVER get out of your armor to repair or lay mines if you have another player in the vehicle with you?

The good:  the APC needed repair, so I jump out to repair ... my passenger jumps in the F1 position to cover me.  When the APC is at full health, he jumps back to the F2 position.  I'm in the F1 and we move on ...

The ugly:  leaving the MEC base on Karkand in an APC and a guy screams "I need a ride" ... I back way up to get him.   As I'm heading toward the action, I jump out to drop a mine to protect the back flags ... this guy takes the F1 seat and will not relinquish it even after constant screaming from me ...

So, I now trust NO passenger in my armor, even though I've had plenty of positive experiences like the one above.  This one experience has made me leery of all passengers.  If you are an experienced armor whore, what do you do when passengers are in your vehicle?  Will you ever get out to repair or lay mines?

I don't whore armor but I'm actually afraid to leave the tank for the very reasons above.

I've had a similar experience where the battle was gonna be really close.
(tickets were about 10-10)
And since I was a medic I bailed from my tank and revived 3 guys to save the ticket loss.

One guy takes the tank and drives off.
Now ok, if he'd only put it to good use I wouldn't be too upset but he drove off in the wrong direction (we had the enemy cornered) and didn't manage to kill a single soul.

We lost by 3 tickets.

I  only share my Tank with someone I know and have played BF2 with before.....and you can make a pretty good team...Driver is Engy   Gunner is med or Support

I jump out of driver seat to repair ( own tank that is) or lay mines.... gunner switches seat to cover me ...I finish he swaps back.......if medic and we see someone requiring assistance ....i pull up close pop smoke ..he gets out and revives.....he jumps in off we go......

If either of us  is too slow to get back in and someone else gets in...we sit there with the turret going around in circles.....until he gets out or we die!

Works well !!

Not an armor whore, but if I see someone reparing I'll always jump in to cover him and to get him a repair point, even myself a few kills, but I always jump out when he's done.

Bastards ... covering while repair = OK ...  dont spoil other peoples fun by taking tank or apc & then doing totally dumb things with it >>> i Agree stick to your team ... if some one is really good at beating the crap out of enemy with tank why bother getting it ! be usefull and be engi or AT to cover the guy who is in armour

I think as armor support, your job is to stay in that armor no matter what. No getting out to revive, no getting out to drop ammo bags, medic bags, whatever. Only get out to repair yourself if you're an engineer, and then do that far away from the action. You're a sitting duck outside of that armor, and if you get killed, then congratulations, you gave the enemy your armor.

even away from the action, it's been a beneficial habit for me to toss out a mine as I hop out to wrench. If some sneaky bastage (enemy) swipes my tank, then they get what they deserve for being sneaky. Other than that, I agree. Only get out to repair... and away from the heat. There are plenty of corners that are good to use. The only problem, there are plenty of decent snipers that are watching those "out of the way" spots too.

You know, mining my own tank in case it does get stolen is a good idea, I don't think I've ever done that before.

It's so easy to have the wrench ready after dropping a mine, I suggest trying it. I've had a few sneaky spec-ops drop from random spots (top of the cement factory / top of guardhouse / other random buildings) while I was going to wrench it... and they found my mine.

Of course, I was away from the action and blame a less-observant commander for not spotting them.. just the same, I should've parked further away from buildings....

all in all, give it a try.

I don't hop out to do anything, either an enemy or teammate is going to take it. nobody cares.

With 8 repair points you should really think about "stat padding" yourself. Maybe you'll get to 16. Your an armor whore who doesn't even play engineer.

If you get out to repair and they take it, fuck em, they'll probably die straight away anyway.

thats not stat padding dude. y is is bad to repair your own tank? stat padding is when your purposly causing damage to your vehicle and repairing it over and over.

When I'm repairing my armor, I always lay under the tread. If a passenger jumps to the driver's seat and steals it, he gets a TK!

When repairing I treat friendlies as enemies (just without the killing part)

LOL.  I just hate convoying with non-engineer tank whores. They get all my repair, and all they give back is useless ammo.  Jamie must be ammo bag stat padding while in armor.

Yup. .  Did that quite a few times last night on Karkand.  One time grayed a tank.  But no teammate saw the gray tank for a good 10 seconds.  Team mate finally gets in, heads to suburb, then gets TOWed!!!!

Regarding the OP topic, almost every time, it's the noob tankers that steal the armor from me.  Almost everytime, they die within seconds.  The experienced tankers usually let me be gunner and repairman.
