Ok, I bought this new microphone so I can speak to you guys while playing BF2 (apparently I was like the only person in BF2 community not to have one) and it won't work...Fuck's me how to get it working.

I:
1) plugged it in
2) Unmuted the microphone setting
3) Adjusted the settings in BF2-Options
4) and restarted the comp

Is there something else that I'm supposed to do?

That's where it's not working...I press B, and no one can hear me...It's like BF2 keeps turning my mic off

do you see the little yellow mic button on the upper right, under your map?

also if your mouse has more than 2 click buttons. . . I moved my VOIP button to mouse 3, and it works WAY better, as far as in game!

Sorry if I was unclear, when your ingame, press whatever button you use for voip, you should see an icon. The icon should be either at the bottom of your screen, in between your health and ammo, or it will be under the game map on the upper right side just below.  If not then the server doesnt have voip! If you can hear your mic, and your cpu is receiving your voice signal during your mic test, than its the game most likely.  Make sure you have the voip option checked when you look up servers too! Cause if your pulling out your hair on your favorite server, and it doesnt support voip, then you know why!

Also if the server has teamspeak, or ventrillo make sure you dload the client, as you might experience problems talking with people!

with my xfire settings i can set it to push to talk (which by default on mine is set to f12) or you can set it to always allow you to speak.

just remembered when i got my Mic (logitech) i had to set it up with windows before it would work. that might help.

If you don't see the green icon when you press B (Or what ever key you assigned it to) while in a squad, then it just isn't on, at that server

I use Roger Wilco while playing with my brother. I had some problems early with it but figured out how to fix them, all I do is open the settings tab and it works for some reason, it's weird.

But trust me, once you get your mic working, you'll love playing BF2. I've been playing with my bro every night that I don't work early in the morning the next day, I average about 400-500 points each of those nights, at least two top three medals, and a k:d around 4 with probably a 100 kills. Once you get organized, even with just two people, you'll dominate. And the best is sometimes people join your squad seeing how well you guys work together and although they can't hear what you're saying, they will still follow you around and help you everywhere you go.

That's why I bought the Mic...I'm in a clan with and two of my best mates.  When we want to play together, we ring each other up.  So we thought we'd buy mics to make it easier...But none of our mics are working...I honestly have no idea how to fix it...

P.S: Just for kicks, my mates are solidus_snake000 and cmadd14

Do you use your motherboard's built-in sound or do you have a soundcard?

Sometimes, you have to choose in Windows the default Line-in/Microphone to be used.  Once you picked the default, you'll be able to speak into your mic and hear yourself in Windows.

I'd also recommend using Teamspeak/Ventrilo any other voice program than the BF2 VOIP.

Oke first things first:
does it work outside BF2. (try using it in some other application). ?
If not try it on another computer (your friends) to see if the mic isn't broken. Also check if the mic isn't muted. Make sure to get it work outside bf2 before considering it to work inside bf2

If it does work outside bf2, join the game, alt tab out and check if bf2 didn't muted the mic. make sure to join a server with voip enabled.

If it still doesn't work (as with me, I think it's the onboard soundcard), run Teamspeak or ventrilo on the background and use that.

You might want to check Boris (badhq) his thread as it has some tips that worked for other people.

It works outside of BF2.  I can hear myself on the computer when I talk into it, and apparently that's bad...When I join the game and fix up the in-game settings, it's muted.  So I alt-tab and un-mute it.  But then when I get back into the game, the settings have been reset.  So I need to disconnect and fix the settings, then join the game again.

Then it just goes round and round in circles...

umm if it works outside, the mic shouldnt be ur prob. try all the different types of settings like "boost MIC" in the options of bf2

i had a similar poblem where it just stopped working and i randomly tried different setting and it started working again.

test to see if ucant actually hear ur voice in the option of bf2. make usre ur not in a game at the time cause it may not be updated for the map ur currently on. i dont think changing ur motherboard would do anything dude... lmfao

OK, this may be too simple but did you do the following:

Control Panel
Sounds & Audio Devices
Select the "Voice" tab
Goto "Voice recording" drop down menu - you should have a default device showing based off of your sound card, for example SoundMAX Digital Audio.
Select the drop down menu and your mic should be in that list - if it's not then you have a problem. If it is, select it and select apply.
Start BF2 and you're good to go.

Hope that helps.

Is it plugged in properly? Try plugging it into a different port. Or you may need special drivers for it, check the manufacturers website?

I know you did say that you could hear yourself in other apps, which sounds a bit odd if it isn't listed as a recording device, but it's worth a shot i guess.
