Bad patches is what's killing this game...we got rid of our server because of the numerous crashes. If the patch is good it may survive. I know I'll go back every now and then to frag the veterans.
if EA woudl only delay 2142 until next year and allow DICE to concentrate on BF2, more maps, expansion paks with addtional weapons and military forces ( at no charge bc of all the trouble we have gone through)
BF2 Sucks, there is just nothing else, EA has not gotten it right since 1942, than DC came along and had EA in a frenzy, DC is a better game than BF2 and unless the new patch solves things BF2 will end up in a shit hole just like BFV. Stats and Ranking killed the BF franchise.
The Mods will keep the game going, the most popular games have been Mods, CS DC etc.

The moment EA turns their stat servers off, all the pub nubs who get hard when they get a badge will quite playing and go get hooked on Wowcrack. Then all the "leet" players who think they are teh leetsauce because they beat up on pub nubs will leave, follow the ex-pub nubs, and try to be the leetsauce in WoW. And all the comp players will leave the minute quakewars or a better fps comes out. Most everyone is sick off all the bullsh!t with the patches, and it's killing this game. That and the fact that 3/4 of the bf2 population only play for their stats, means that this game doesn't have any life left in it. The only reason why EA keeps their stat servers up is because they can keep the gamers hooked and buying their crappy expansions. The moment players start to loose interest, stats = gone which in tern means all pub nubs = gone.

I think that after the first 2142 patch is out a noticeable decline will occur. I think this is the high water mark.
And that is sad.

I just saw a 20 minute long video about 2142´s game-play. I only have one thing to say. Bye bye BF2 because 2142 will dig your grave, and it will be born. Seriously, this game is by far better. You need to have way more skill, and way more brain to win and own. You should look at that vid on google. Just time battlefield 2142. Some guy has the link in his tropic.
For me it's all about the contemporary setting. I didn't know about the stat server being turned off - is that true? I guess i do like looking over my stats. It give me something to do when i'm bored and in the office and can't play my beloved BF2! Anyway, yeh, i'm not built for the Sci-Fi thing, and i def see 2142 as sheer profiteering. If Dice concentrated on this instead of pumping their fan base for cash jizz, they would have such a ridiculously loyal following, they could keep three or four games going with mods and upgrades alone.
Think about that for second - what do you want? I want a decent modern (contemporaneous) combat game that works; i wouldn't change anything about BF2 except its stability, the support guns and black hawk guns.
SO if they just ironed out these creases and kept upgrading the graphics engine for the same game mechanics, even if that entailed buying a £30 upgrade to the next build, they would have me FOR LIFE! Really! I'd be playing when i reach TA Firestorm age and playing in my incotinence nappy.
