After watching a video about sniping with the M95 a little while ago, http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=3972I've set out to become a better sniper. I have read a lot about bullet drop so I really wanted to see which is the best way to go about sniping. I found that depending on the situation, there is some bullet drop, but not as much as I've heard some people state (like 2 real cm on screen).
I played on wake sniping from USA artillery to either island and I found that the surest way to get a kill was to aim ever so slightly above the enemy's head and fire. Practially aim at the hair, not at the face. On other maps I played, I tried many long range shots and got the best effects using the same technique. Aiming 2cm never quite worked for these shots. However, I did notice some interesting behavior when I had to snipe enemies much higher or lower than me.
For example, I was trying to snipe someone that was sniping me back from a crane and had a hard time doing so by aiming directly at him. The bullet will always hit below my intended target. I had a medic nearby so I was able to fine tune this. In this case, it helped to aim higher than the head, although I never really figured out how much higher. Same thing has happened when sniping enemies on roofs. After a while, I sought higher ground to take out this enemy and once I was higher, aiming directly worked like a charm once again.
So in my opinion, the best sniping technique is to just aim at your targets head and fire away, ensuring that you don't move the mouse at all when you shoot. This gave me many more kills than I've had before.
Oh and another note regarding moving targets, if you watch the video, you see how the sniper places the scope stationary and waits for the target to move into the sights. This works perfectly, just as long as you fire a little bit before he is dead on with the cross hairs. I got many sweet kills this way and it feels great. My best one today was sniping a parachuting enemy using this method, instant death with the head shot.
So, thanks again for that video, I am a true believer in sniping again.
