I just installed patch 1.03 and everytime i try to connect to a multiplayer game i get the message invalid cd key, multiplayed games worked just fine on the previous version. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? thanks for your time!

This is a shot in the dark, but I had the same problem after a fresh install of Windows XP.  I haven't contacted EA about it, cuz I fixed it, but...if you're running windows XP, you can only play under a certain BF2 dossier inside of the XP user login you used to create it.  IE, if you logged in as administrator to install BF2 and then logged into the EA server, you can't play on it as another XP logon (nick063, for example).  So if you want to play it, log back in as admin, or whatever login you installed it under.  If that doesn't help, let me know and we'll see what else we can come up with.

As Nipr.[net] said there was an issue with the game being installed under one windows xp user account and then being played on another. Re-install or try and find a solution on the EA help site perhaps...

I had the same problem...very strange but by looking at the EA support website they recommend going to the BF2 directory and the the support directory and running Battlefield 2_code.exe and re-type in your cd-key. If that doesnt work reinstall the patch (which worked for me!) and lastly if all else fails reinstall BF2
Hope this helps

it is because EA tries to prevent piracy by recording your CD key in ur registry.

so if you log onto other accounts on XP, the game will say invalid..

google it and find the solutions... or just use the same user
