Israel is not the only democratic country, Iran is also democratic. Its a diferent democacry, but does everyone have to be like the US? Israel sure ain't. Having said that, since when does the US give a shit whether or not a country is democratic? US is allied to Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, the first is a very oppresive monarchy causing hardship and denying rights  to thousands of beduins. The second a very harsh military dictatorship, who overthrew a totally democratic regime! Some real champions of democracy and freedom, these US allies...

You do know that by blaming the UN you are just about blaming Europe and the US. They were the ones who pushed this plan through the UN, and quite easily since at that time many arab nations still weren't UN members.

Umm. . . I dont know what to say to you. .  .

If you dont see the writing on the wall, then I cant help you. . .

Iran a democracy, are you high?????????????? What is so democratic about having the Supreme Ayatollah CONTROL EVERYTHING that goes on in the country(there's no free speech, no civil rights in Iran my friends).  Their president was APPOINTED by the Ayatollah NOT elected by the masses! You guys are fucking nuts I swear to god. . .

Also, I am not saying I am a big fan of our "allies" in the middle east either!! They are pricks too!! The Saudi's, Egyptians, etc. are assholes!!

Again, the UN is worthless in todays MODERN WORLD, as I said before.  It was a good plan at the end of WWII, but it is NO LONGER A VIABLE entity in world affairs.  Everyone is to blame for the UN's failures, not just the "most powerful" nation.

ITS NOT JUST THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION THAT KISSES ISRAELS ASS!!!!!!!! JESUS CHRIST END THE LIBERAL DIATRIBE!! We have been supporting Israel under democrats and republicans SINCE ITS INCEPTION!!!

I think the USA should pull out of the UN, it does nothing for the world or us!! All it does is talk, issue resolutions that have ZERO substance to them! WE HAVE gone to the UN and demanded better cooperation, but it seems to have done little good.  They FLAT OUT dont give a shit. . . they love their diplomatic immunity and driving in their limos in Manhattan and thats that!!!!!!!!!!

You're right, we DONT give a shit if a nations democratic, as long as they behave themselves.  Which includes not selling weapons to terroritst, harboring them, funding them, etc.  Look at Libya, they decided to give up their nuke program, and no one has fucked with them!!!!!!!! Qadafi is living it up, still in power, abiding by our agreement with him, and we havent messed with him AT ALL! Libya isnt exactly a democracy either!!

The president is elected by popular vote in Iran. In Israel he is appointed by the Knesset. You said Israel was a democracy, so you can't rule out Iran just because they are against you.

Yeah, everyone is a prick besides de the US, right? About the plan being good, it was never a good plan. It was the easy way out of the anti-semitism that was throughout ALL of Europe, not just Germany. The easy way out, just thrown them all back in their promissed land.

Yes, and don't you think its about time you took your little protectorate in the Middle East and teached it some manners and lessons in how to resolve conflicts? Israel is just destroying the little foreign realtions the bush adminsitration had and giving reasons for the terrorists to exist, and he's doing that using the billions you send them. Israel makes it very easy for hezbollah and al-quaida to recruit new terrorists.

So, according to the article, the UN was actually DOING SOMETHING?? Shock horror. Anyway, i dont care if they screwed the Israelis over, what Israel did to Lebanon was barbaric. They are like a bully, throwing their weight around, but Hezbollah showed them.
Israel's objective was to wipe them off the map, then to disarm, then to push back - they lost the battle, and they sure as hell will lose the war

Yea hezbollah did show them. i mean that was just pwnage. This Israel with all its military going against a militia. Forget all those analyst and war experts- hezbollah proved them all wrong. Wars or Battles are not won by who has the better arsenal but rather who has more spirit. in bf2 talk it was like a top clan going against this "noobish clan" and those noobs just pwned em hard and after that gave them a  tea-bag here and there, hezbollah style lol.

I mean really i wasn't expecting hezbollah to stand off israel or even fight against them. But they proved almost everyone wrong and this is going down in military history. The only thing the israelis were good at was shooting down at civilians.

I was in shock and horror to see the UN take sides when they are a peacekeeping organization which is supposed to be neutral.

Israel's tactics barbaric? NO.  Barbaric would have been indiscriminately launching rockets that share the same guidance system as the old V2's (none),and not caring whether the rocket hits a hospital, school or a legit military target.  Israel may have lost the battle, but I doubt will perform the same next time.

If by hezbo "pwnage" you mean deploying their rocket launchers in civilian towns, keeping them from evacuating, then running away and hiding  -then yea they "pwned".

Those civilian casualty photos (like the dead infant one) were faked.

You are lost. . .

You obviously have no clue what I am getting at! I am not saying the US is an innocent bystander in all this mess.  However, it is not the sole cause of the worlds ills.

IRAN IS NOT A DEMOCRACY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!! OR you simply dont know what a democracy is!!

You are not reading me properly, I am not biased towards Israel! I think they have wrought what they have sowed over the years. . . I think we (USA) needs to stop blindly funding them! But I also realize they are our allies over there, and should be helped if in desperate need.

Finally, YES!! We need to get out of the UN for GOOD!! The UN is nothing more than a kangaroo court filled with assholes!! What has the UN done in the last 20years that has been of ANY VALUE whatsoever??

We are not cowards at all, we are the only ones who WILL face tyranny and terrorism(aside from the UK, Aussies etc) Europeans are the real pussies!! They wont back up their threats, and wont follow through with enforcing their BS resolutions! I am sick and tired of watching the UN flounder around with no substance TO ANYTHING they supposedly support!

IT is a different world we live in now! The UN is stuck in the fucking late 40's early 50's!!! DISBAND IT NOW! Or overhaul it! either way the UN needs a facelift because it is doing more harm than good!! It has no legs to stand on!

First of all, its au contraire.....and secondly or more.......... jonsimon, you are obviously ignorant of how Iran really works, here I'll break it down for you.

1) Iran is a Constitutional Republic--a non-democratic Republic.

2) It is ruled first and foremost by what their Constitution terms "The Supreme Leader." This man is not elected. Current holder of the office is the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He is the Commander In Chief of the armed forces, the head of all intelligence and security forces absolutely. He and he alone has the power to declare war. He also has the unilateral power to appoint or dismiss judges, has complete control over all television and radio networks, and controls many other important functions--and once again, his control over most of these things is absolute. He also controls half of the "Council of Guardians," a group that interprets the Iranian Constitution.

How does Supreme Leader--i.e. Dictator For Life--get his job? He is "elected" by:

2) The Assembly of Experts. This body is made up of 86 clerics--mullahs, ayatollahs--who are "elected" to 8 year terms of office. One says "elected" with trepidation, because they have to be widely recognized religious figures. Widely recognized by who? By other religious men. Basically, if you aren't in the Ayatollah Club, you don't get to be on this assembly. Furthermore, this "Assembly of Experts" has never once been known to either overrule or remove from office any Supreme Leader. (WHAT happened to your wonderful seperation of church and state, NOT A DEMOCRACY)

3) Who is the Council of Guardians? A group of 12 quasi-judges who have the ultimate authority for interpreting the Constitution. By law, half of them are appointed and keep their job at the whim of the Supreme Leader and are always clerics. The other half are appointed by the Parliament. Oh, there's a "Parliament?" Sure. Sort of.

4) Parliament: An assembled body that gets to vote on budgetary matters and treaties and a few related issues. All their decisions are subject to approval or rejection by the Council of Guardians--and nothing they do can overrule anything done by the Supreme Leader. Furthermore, only candidates approved by the Council of 12 are allowed to run for office--and in every "election" ever held, the vast majority of people who wanted to run for office were denied the right to do so.

5) The "President" - electected every four years. Must be approved by the Council of Guardians and the Supreme Leader. Handles day-to-day executive duties, with formal approval of the Supreme Leader for anything controversial.

In all of this, there is no free speech (Not much of a democracy there), there is no free press, and the only people allowed to run for any office are those approved by the Supreme Leader and the mullahs who run the entire show. People are routinely jailed for criticizing the government. Most government power resides in figures who have never been elected to anything, nor even appointed by truly elected officials.

Oh yeah, and most of the evidence shows that despite all this, massive vote fraud has been normal in every election, since the vast majority of Iranians, especially young ones, think the elections are a complete joke and a waste of time. No real reformer is ever allowed to even run for office, let alone be elected. So the mullahs appear to use a lot of ballot stuffing just to make turnout look much higher than it is.

It is a republic and certainly not close to a democracy.  Unless you want to counter point me....go ahead.

Edit: Even Pat Buchanan says its a Republic and NOT democratic.  And this is from an ANTI WAR site for Christ's sake, the likes of which you should trust jonsi

Show us the photos. In my opinion Israels campaign was clearly a failure since Hezbollah is still there and able to make attacks. Also, Israels image around the world has been damaged, maybe beyond repair?, due to the fact that THEY killed 4 UN officials and hundreds of Lebanese civilians. Here in northern Europe many people who couple of months ago would have sided with Israel, are now seeing Israel as no different than the terrorist groups they are fighting.

If by hezbo "pwnage" you mean deploying their rocket launchers in civilian towns, keeping them from evacuating, then running away and hiding  -then yea they "pwned".

Those civilian casualty photos (like the dead infant one) were faked.
I suppose all the cluster bombs in civilian neighborhoods that killed them were faked also?  Try telling that to the Amnesty International bomb squads trying to defuse the THOUSANDS of them...
Are those the same civilian neighborhoods where the hezzies were launching rockets from?  The same civilian neighborhoods where its citizens were forced to stay by the hezbos?
not worth the comment...get a clue.

Erm, surely killing civillians with high tech guided missiles is more barbaric. Anyway, there is absolutely no way that a lot of Israels bombing campaign had anything to do with destroying hezbollah.

That would be the international airport and the main roads in the country that they were bombing. Does this harm Hezbollah? No. Does this help rescue their troops? No.
