I am not bothered by the temporary ban. I wouldn't be bothered by a ban on most Muslims countries in fact. I am not obsessed with immigration for the sake of immigration like a lot of lefties are.

I am very annoyed that housing cost are going to keep going up in my area while immigrants especially from China and India keep moving in. I am going to be priced out of my hometown one day the same way I am already priced out of my birth city.

What I like most is how right-wing radicals cast themselves as conservative traditionalists, and the wilfully ignorant like Jay lap it up.

"Lets ban abortion, expand the army, cut taxes for businesses, expand govt borrowing and spending and throw the constitution in the bin"

"Nothing to see here, this is cautious conservatism in action, nothing is actually happening"

conservatism has always branded itself as common sense. like duh, why would you want to do anything else? but it's motivated by venality and often times outright bigotry.

I don't want any of those things though.

Edit- except corporate taxes if it's offset by spending cuts, not transferring the burden to consumers with a VAT like Paul Ryan wants.

But that's the sort of thing which is being proposed -such as corporate tax cuts tied to increased govt spending and borrowing - and you're applauding their 'conservative constitutionalism'.

And VAT makes very good fiscal sense.

Please explain, because to me it's just a 20% regressive sales tax tacked onto all goods. I already pay 9.875% sales tax to new York state.

my only problem with VAT is that, compared to progressive and income-weighted tax, relatively minor increases in VAT have a disproportionately crushing effect on the little guy. VAT can be a pretty specious way to tax someone when you're combining it with income tax cuts to the top brackets.

Also, we (American consumers) currently have an advantage by not having a VAT since all of your exports are VAT free.

Corporation tax is just a regressive 30% tax tacked onto all companies. How does that make sense?

It makes sense to me to tax consumption and production evenly, or why would anyone bother producing anything when they could just be a retailer or importer?

If for no other reason it makes sense to be level with other countries, how can US companies, taxed at 30% say, compete with foreign companies taxed at 10 or 20%? Its why companies have moved their tax and manufacturing bases offshore and they're paying no tax at all to America, and America produces nothing.

We don't need to produce anything as long as we're the reserve currency

President Donald Trump threatened to withdraw federal funding from the University of California at Berkeley over its decision to cancel an event at which Breitbart writer Milo Yiannopoulos, known for his provocative and often misogynistic stances, was scheduled to speak.

“If U.C. Berkeley does not allow free speech and practices violence on innocent people with a different point of view - NO FEDERAL FUNDS?” Trump wrote on Twitter Thursday morning.

The university opted to cancel Yiannopoulos’s speech roughly two hours before it was set to begin after a protest against his presence on the campus turned violent, CNN reported. The school blamed “150 masked agitators” with igniting the violence, which included Molotov cocktails and fireworks launched at police.

i was joking. it's just my point that jay has dismissed two readings of the constitution as 'progressive' but will no doubt agree with all of this guy's interpretations because he's echt-conservative and suits jay's own political prejudices. remember when jay lectured us on how an originalist reading is taken, using semantics (good job telling a lit student about semantics) and context? and then dismissed the brookings institute's own originalist reading of the emoluments clause?

but of course this guy's interpretations will be bang on the money because he's conservative and banters about fascism.

Milo argues that white male scholarships are needed to put us on equal footing with blacks, gays and women.

He's a troll, he's Bill O'Reilly without the tv show.

Republicans will support white supremacists views like that because 'much free speech' when he deserves nothing but condemnation. It's just a dog whistle for the racists.

Have you no thought on how utterly wrong his hate speech is?

He's provacative, yes.

I believe in free speech, even when I disagree with the message strongly. He was invited and should've been allowed to speak. The real fascists are the ones trying to silence others. Like I said, it's not a good look.
