The whole thing sucks for everyone involved. Kanye's apparent inability to cope, the surgeon's name dragged through the mud, and whatever the heck happened with not following instructions for post-op care. For Trump it's like a can of worms appeared in his office and took a seat across from him. That it can render a walking twitter feed silent speaks volumes.

I don't know what the answer is, a combination of living wage, workfare, and free education in universal skills which enable to people to turn their hands to whatever the next big thing is, so I don't know, Maths, Physics, Biology, Communication/Linguistics and Creativity.
That and companies need to be less anal about who they take on and provide more training - realistically most jobs don't need a degree, a month or two of on the job training plus supervision will usually do it.

Locally to me very few companies are prepared to take on graduates or apprentices, then whine like hell there are no job applicants with 5+ years experience and demand the govt open the door to skilled migrants - like me.

You guys still in the private sector are really fucked. I would suggest to anyone to get a job in the government especially in a part of it with a strong institutional basis. You don't know how nice it is to be part of a system that makes entrenching it's workers a priority.

I think a lot of the terminology we used in American politics today is inaccurate and unhelpful. Since our election system hasn't caught up to modern politics, we have to put people into the narrow boxes of either Republican or democrat, conservatives or liberal, left vs right etc despite there being a tapestry of different beliefs and ideologies circling around.

Granted, decay has been going on for much longer. For example, I think Reagan's repeal of the Fairness Doctrine was a significant factor in polarizing media for the right-wing talk radio era to follow. We were exposed to a nearly daily voice in the background telling us who we should hate and resent. People drove commutes with this insidious language worming its way to the backs of their minds. Dinner conversation began to feature increasingly vitriolic rants about the subhuman liberals who were out to get everyone, to such an emotionally charged degree that brooked no differing opinion on pain of family-sundering argumentation. Racist talk and bald-faced bigotry experienced a bit of a renaissance as a household feature where I did not see them blatantly displayed before.
It would be hard to not be swept into at least some of it as a young kid, especially when your immediate family bought into it. It feels awful, and completely extricating yourself takes hard work. Some of my family haven't recovered, though to be fair older gg/boomer prejudices were undoubtedly a (reinforced) contributing factor.
So sure, it's an anecdotal bone to pick. But what I see in Trump's language and his base is just more poisonous bullshit like this, and I resent the hell out of it.
