does the wind stop blowing at night? and you didn't address the point at all. you're making out that to try and change US energy policy would be tantamount to telling everyone to throw their xboxes away and start wearing hemp. whilst america's over-consumption is a national embarrassment, i don't see what it has to do with energy production.
Yes.

I did.

Changing US energy policy is a non-starter. What do you want us to do? Raise gasoline taxes? Transportation (including air travel) consumes a whopping 12% of our energy. So you've pissed off a bunch of people and made them poorer for next to no gain.

Ok, so you go after power plants, which consume 50% of our energy. A lot of our plants are old coal fired plants that are on their way out anyway, so they're replaced with natural gas, which is cleaner and more efficient, but also more expensive per BTU. Except now we have environmentalists pushing for fracking bans and protesting pipelines. So maybe nuclear? But that has it's own well-established NIMBYisms. So where do we go then? We build more solar plants that only work really well at noon local time? We build a bunch of wind turbines (which also have their own NIMBYisms)? It's easier to just stick with the status quo than fight all the special interests and idiots.

Then you have the same environmentalists pushing for electric cars to be widely adopted. Where is the electricity to charge the batteries going to come from?

I'm sorry uzi, but energy policy is a helluva lot easier in a geographically small country like Germany or the UK.

you're right, energy policy is much easier on small islands with extremely high population density.

no you're just a dumbie who parrots what your professors say in lectures and what you read on 4chan (and youtube, apparently).  I can't recall any instances where I've read actual critical thought from you.  It leads me to believe you lack the ability.

It's almost like you embody the asian stereotype of being taught rote memorization.  Mommy and Daddy realize classical music is a sign of culture, so what does young Timmy do? Instead of learning about the different eras and births/deaths of classical movements, he drills bach on the violin for 10 hours a day.

I think his reasoning is weak and the Nazi parallels are way overdone. Interesting, yes, but I don't really think there is an issue with executive compensation. The average sports player, not even star, makes more money. The minimum annual salary for a professional baseball player in MLB is over $1,000,000/year. According to: http://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job … e_Officer_(CEO)/Salary the average CEO salary is $190,000. Yes, there are people making a lot more.

Why do some people have so much? The power of compound interest. Say you start with and set aside $1,000,000, at 5% interest each year, your money will double in 14 years. You now have $2,000,000 and you didn't do anything for it. Another 14 years and you have $4,000,000. Sure, inflation eats away at some of it, but you very quickly reach the point where you earn more in interest than you could ever hope to spend. This is how we get the super rich.

Are they a problem? No, not really. Their money is sequestered away from the economy collecting interest. It's not causing inflation, it's not being spent, for all intents and purposes it doesn't exist to the average person. It's just an abstract number. It's caught in a positive feedback loop, forever driving up its own value by reinvesting, which in turn causes stock prices to rise. Economists like Pikkety can complain about this all they want, but if that money was ever confiscated and handed out instead of sitting parked where it is our entire world economy would collapse. The stock market would be worth nil. We're all free-riding on that positive feedback loop right now with our 401Ks and our pension plans. Yes, this does favor people who start with money, but there are just as many people who are born rich and squander it as self-made millionaires and billionaires.

The average rate of return for the stock market since 1900 has been around 8%. Buy into an index fund.

In theory if their money is in a bank then its available for other people to borrow.
Of course if its in gold bars in Switzerland or some impenetrable fund in Bermuda that's a bit different, hence they should be discouraged from offshoring it.

Suit yourself. At 8% your money doubles in only 9 years.

one of my mates was able to get an investment trust that pays 7% a year guaranteed if he puts it in for around 10 years. This is like 6 mil USD i think.

If we are posting articles now, there was something interesting posted in The Nation regarding the working class culture of Trump voters as described by Hunter S. Thompson in his book about the Hells Angels.

Super rich by parking money into index funds? LOL

It's a great investment strategy but no one became a billionaire by parking a million into a diversified portfolio and just sitting back waiting for it to grow. People became super rich by having the right idea in the right place at the right time and pushing it as far as they can. Bill Gates. Elon Musk. Steve Jobs. Warren Buffett. Whether it be an inventor, an innovator or both, they did a hell of a lot more than just rely on passive income streams.

That wasn't what I was saying. I said that once you reach the point that you make more in interest than you could ever spend you end up super wealthy by default due to compound interest. No, you're not going to get there with your little 10% savings in a salaried job.
