New York Governor Andrew Cuomo responded by saying that quarantining the state of New York would be "preposterous" and "anti-American".

"If you said we were geographically restricted from leaving, that would be a lockdown."

He said New York had already implemented "quarantine" measures, such as banning major gatherings and ordering people to remain at home, but that he would oppose any "lockdown" efforts.

"Then we would be Wuhan, China, and that wouldn't make any sense," he told CNN, adding that this would cause the stock market to crash in a way that would make it impossible for the US economy to "recover for months, if not years".

"You would paralyse the financial sector," he said.

He added later: "I don't know how that can be legally enforceable. And from a medical point of view, I don't know what you would be accomplishing.

"But I can tell you, I don't even like the sound of it."

Mr Cuomo also said he would sue nearby Rhode Island if the authorities there continued targeting New Yorkers and threatening to punish them for failing to quarantine.

There is no point in quarantining 3 states. COVID is already all over the U.S. and anyone capable of leaving NYC already has. Once Trump called quarantine, a lot of people actually fled the city instead of getting trapped. These states are also way too big to effectively quarantine. If we are going to quarantine anything, we should quarantine the entire country. We produce enough food and energy for every person to at least survive at subsistence level. The fact that we aren't doing so is a political choice instead of a lack of capability.

Today.

I told a 28 year old that he needs intubation. He was scared. Couldn’t breathe.

I told the wife of a 47 year old that he is dying over FaceTime.

I bronched a #COVID19 patient who mucous plugged. It saved his life. Risked mine.
it's just flu guys. young people get intubated for flu all the time.

President Trump’s Department of Homeland Security released updated guidelines naming gun manufacturers and retailers as essential on Saturday, which means they are to stay open and operational nationwide during a Chinese coronavirus shutdown.
They need to keep the gun stores and Protestant churches open. I will tell every Trump supporter to close the gun stores and churches after I tell them I voted for Clinton, am a brown person, and I don't know gay or something. I am hoping they prove me wrong. Please try to prove me wrong as hard as you can. Hug and shake hands too. Liberals hate it when you hug and shake hands. And whatever you do do not cancel Friday bible study in your cramped finished basements. And finally I am absolutely begging you to throw Chicken Pox parties. That is how they did it back before checks notes Hillary Clinton put the homosexuals and trannies in control of the CDC. Do not listen to the Social Justice CDC.

"The President's coronavirus guidelines for America"

Seems woefully inadequate.

If you feel sick, stay home.
It is believed that people who are asymptomatic can spread the virus.

If someone in your household has tested positive for coronavirus, keep the entire household at home.
It is believed that people who are asymptomatic can spread the virus. It's difficult to get testing.

Italy's 10,000 deaths seems meager compared to how fast ours is growing. We had 1000 deaths in two days and this things grows exponentially. We are not prepared for days with a 1000 deaths but that is coming.

the chief medical officer (or his stand-in, the actual one has caught coronavirus) said that the UK would be 'lucky' to get away with 20,000 dead at this point. that would be a positive outcome as a result of total social distancing for an extended period. jesus christ.

meanwhile downing street has begun briefing senior ministers who are leaking to the press that 'no 10 is furious with china'. of course they are. the high numbers and growing dead can't at all be due to their mishandling and wrong-thinking in the early weeks ('let's just let everyone catch it; we'll soon get herd immunity; who cares what the rest of europe are doing?'). nope. it's time for the prime minister to take a backseat from public view and to begin blaming the china-man. electoral protection mode engaged!

Bumped into this article a couple weeks ago:

Class Action Filed Against China Over COVID-19 Outbreak 3/13
https://www.law.com/dailybusinessreview … 0229120413

Taken up here,

China Sued for ‘Covering Up’ Coronavirus Pandemic in Its ‘Own Economic Self-Interest’ 3/16
https://lawandcrime.com/lawsuit/china-s … f-interest

providing these bullet points:

a. Censored eight doctors on January 1, 2020, from speaking about the outbreak and its dangers.
b. Even after the first death on January 9th, they continued to downplay the dangers and assured the public that the situation was not serious and that everything was under control.
c. It took 17 days from the time Chinese researchers discovered the COVID-19 genome sequence for Defendants to report the findings to their world-wide peers.
d. They knew COVID-19 was spread human to human by January 3rd, but told the public otherwise, and would not confirm the ease of human to human transmission until January 20th, after the virus had already spread beyond China.
e. China President Xi Jinping originally stated that he directed officials to contain the virus on January 7th, but it has since emerged that he did not do that, and that he actually waited until January 22nd to do direct containment, and still did not make any efforts public until it was too late.
f. Despite early January deaths, they would only attribute the deaths to pneumonia, instead of the virus, and continued to downplay its dangers.
g. Wuhan’s leaders held a public dinner for over 40,000 families on January 18, despite knowing the ease of human to human spread of the virus.
It's probably too easy to simply point the finger at China and walk away from any meaningful navel-gazing.

Some countries' leaders and top officials might as well be pouring that anti-coronavirus bleach down the throats of their nations' citizens.

No matter how many people die there will be about 40% of Americans who will vote for Trump because they think he did a good job. For the rest of your life, Newbie, you are going to hear the blue collar workers at your transgender workshop defend Trump's handling of the situation.

So I'm pretty sure I've had it the last few days. Have had a tightness in my chest that doesn't really show itself unless I cough or sneeze. I had a slight fever for a few hours, but it didn't come back after I hit it with acetaminophen. Now I'm just dealing with flu-like body aches in my upper body. Every muscle above my waist feels tight. I'm scheduled for a test tomorrow morning at one of the drive thru sites. It took six days to process my request after I found out I was exposed at work.

I hope i have covid instead of something else. Barring some unforseen turn for the worse, this is more annoying than anything.

The finale is when the world rebuilds, decides you're non-essential and you end up on the curb with your mechanical keyboards, vinyl records, and the thousands of nerdzique posters you couldn't find anyone to buy.

Right now the list of "essential" jobs is pretty narrow. We're posting about movies, music, games, macbeth's mental illnesses, and your wardrobe replacement on a website that was built on top of a video game. A title we presumably all enjoyed the hell out of, but could certainly be called "non-essential." It's a stupid fucking binary viewpoint anyway.

Doesn't uzique edit scientific publications or something? What a worthless thing to do with one's life. /s

now watch him recover after a mild case of covid and proceed to tell everyone, here and elsewhere, that it's 'not so bad' and 'the experts have it wrong'. we just need to get back to work guys!!!!

Italy is at 10% fatality rate which leads me to believe that the Chinese were lying about their numbers and the virus is more deadly than people think. There is also a significant lag between first symptoms and death. People aren't dying right away but instead languishing for awhile. So we should expect our number of dead to jump way up in the coming week as some the early infected pass away.

The Italians are overestimating their dead from coronavirus by a factor of 6.
