2 friends are gone to Iraq. One of them (my best friend) left earlier this week....which I did not know til yesterday. I talked to him about a week before he left. And one of my other great friends is leaving Tuesday, he should have left already but his leave date was pushed back. I am proud to say, I have friends in foreign places laying their lives on the line....and I too in the next couple years will be there doing the same. But I talked with my friend Allen today, who is leaving Tuesday, and it made me sad because I thought this could be the last time I talk to him. Its just one of those things that you know your friends are going, you know they will probably be ok.....but just the bad thoughts hit you, and you think to yourself 'this could be the last time we speak'. And when I think that, I think of how I cant imagine how my girlfriend and family will feel when my turn comes up.
So to my friends, and to fellow soldiers who are/or about to serve a tour, I say - Cheers, and stay safe. I am proud to be friends with fine soldiers like yourselves, and I will be even more proud to serve along next to you.
