I think is just because you are not fully aware of what they stand for, in part due to media bias. Perhaps when you sit in your mahogany office you forget that the piece of cloth you filter out the sediment from that 50 year old port is more than likely made from Muslin. And it's very likely you are just biased against Afghans because you haven't experienced the full range of rug designs. Some might sit very well in that office of yours. You should definitely rely less on the media, and actually go out and meet some real Muslins, Afghans and other imported woven products which have integrated very well into everyday life in the west.
