xbox 360 is now more expensive then the ps3

microsoft has just released the price of its HD DRIVE for the 360 it cost £200, many people will have to buy this drive to play games like the new halo and so on.

that means that the current uk 360 price is £280 (full machine) + the HD drive = £480

which is £35 more expensive than the full version of the PS3 which will retail at £445 in march. (in europe)

microsoft do seem to be dropping there prices but from what i have seen on various websites its only the core machine which is having a price drop.

please give your thoughts on this, will this keep you away from buying a 360?

any 360 owners pissed off that they have to folk out another £200 to be able to play certain games?

just so people know i am a 360 owner. EDIT!

Where did you get this from? I dont think they've even said the price for the US yet (which always has stuff before Europe), so I dont really think that they'd do this, they've got a big advantage over Sony because of the delay, and then to shoot themselves in the foot with that pricing......I dont think so!

And to play the new Halo on a HD drive is just stupid! Thats eliminating the majority of people who are going to buy it!

this is a different source i found saying there will be a bundle that is £50 cheaper than the ps3 but the drive on its own is still £200.

Microsoft has already said they aren't making games on HD DVDs so I don't know what makes you think Halo 3 will require the HD Drive.
They only reason they're releasing the HD drive is for HD DVD movies, aka who cares until the format wars cool off (unless you like throwing money away).

edit: no idea as to the reliability of this site, but it's not the first place I saw this info anyway....

microsoft has said that there will be games made on HD discs in the future there was an interview a couple of months back on gamespot.com.

but i do like Rygar view of wait and see who wins because £200 pound is alot of money wasted if blu-ray won and vice verser!

Check out the link I posted. I am pretty sure it's the same quote, but the statement from a while ago didn't say there'd be games made in the future, they just said there wouldn't be in 2006. The recent statement says there won't be at all because transfer time from HD DVD is too slow, and the hard drive in the 360 can't cache or some such thing.
So again, until you see it, don't believe it
