What should I buy.
AMD® ATHLON® 64BIT FX62 @ 2.8GHZ 2 x 1MB L2 Cache (AM2 pin)
or
INTEL® CORE® 2 EXTREME X6800 (2 X 2.93GHZ) 1066mhz FSB/4MB

What would you boyz say is they way to go? playing BF2 for a bit but 2142 when it's out.

Help would be nice.

The graphic card is more important then the CPU. Look for a CPU with a great price-performance and invest your saved money in a good graphic card. Btw the Battlefield series dont support 2 Cpu cores. Maybe the first game which support this technology will be CRYSIS...

IMHO: If u want to buy a new PC I would wait for the next graphic card generation (maybe with DirectX 10)

Ah money no issue... then intel gots at the moment the better technology i think... But like I said bevor, the GPU is more important.

I prefer AMD, but they simply aren't anywhere near as fast at the moment. If you're getting a graphics card too, maybe go for an ATI if your looking for top end stuff - since the high end (well all) Nvidia cards can't do AA and HDR at the same time, you have to pick one or the other, which is annoying.

Maybe get a crossfire system. Or wait for the DX10 cards.

I agree with you to some level. AMD has always been the underdog, they made great processors that could take quite a beating, and were performing better than Intels old architecture.

But Intel has really made some good progress with their Core 2, and the performance of the new Merom should be 50% faster than the old Core 2's.

As am I. I don't like the ATi cards much, but the way nvidia cards can't do HDR and AA is just lame.

Despite that I'd still probably get an nvidia card next.

But the Core 2 Duo is sooooooo much quicker than the current AMD chips it's not even funny. I feel Intel should suffer for their lame attempts with the P4 and the extreme gayness that was Netburst, but they have made an amazingly good CPU to replace it with. AMD however have been resting on their laurels and brought out AM2 which is crap and overpriced, giving very little performance increase.
