Ok, lol. Provocative title to trance you in, but I'm not laughing. Ah, I'm actually really quite confused.

My existing ADSL connection comes in through an RJ11 cable which connects directly to my internal ADSL modem. Lovely.

Now that I have my new gaming PC (see sig for specs) I now want to split this connection between the two computers. I know I need an ADSL router and ethernet cables to connect the computers. That's cool.

What I don't understand is the question of do I still need a modem? Do routers come with modems inside? This is whats puzzling me as some products say "ADSL Router" and other products say "ADSL modem/router"

wtf, I'm nearly crying (metaphorically). In fact, it's distracting me from my homework trying to figure this out. What sort of price range should I look at for this sort of thing?

Any help is really appreciated,

No you dont need a router. I have  a wireless ADSL router. Works fine.

Depends what type of modem you have.

If you have a USB modem (most common type) you need to get the Modem / Router Combo as routers only use Ethernet connections.

But if youre lucky enough to have an ethernet modem, you should be able to get away with just a router.

Though imho router / modem combos are better as you know you get compatibility, its all in one box and most bult in modems also support ADSL 2+.

OK routers. I found that Belkin completely suck ass and should be avoided like a swarm of snake / locast hybrids infected with the plague. I like Netgear (easy to set up and pretty).

My router (DG834 PN) cost £100.00 (~$180.00) and that included a wireless adapter. But that was a few months ago.

You get what you pay for, and i rekon start looking at £50+

Any other questions?

Edit for the people above.

Telephone jack > Modem
Modem > Router
Router > PCs

Problem solved.
