Well over 1000 hours playing BF2 now, Ive come to some conclusions about map balancing in BF2.

(note:- this is generally assuming base rape is NOT allowed)

So

Mashtuur City, Daqing Oilfields, FuShe Pass, Songhua Stalemate, Dragon Valley, Strike at Karkand, Sharqi Peninsula, all pretty much balanced according to the skill of each team.

Wake Island 2007 - although usually games end up going strongly in favour of either team I think provided there is a no base rape rule, this map is pretty balanced aswell.

Kubra Dam, Operation Clean Sweep - in favour of USA, solely for the reason that the MEC airfield(s) are cappable.

Gulf of Oman, Zatar Wetlands, Dalian Plant - In favour is china/MEC, mainly due to that fact that USA lose out in teh air due to the F35b, which in turn makes it harder for chopper and so on.

So IMO, 5 maps that are not balanced, 3 of them directly because of teh F35B.

I had hoped they would have buffed the F35B in the latest patch, guess they wont ever now, shame.

What do you guys think?

Great Wall is THE best balanced map in the entirety of Battlefield 2

Oman is fairly balanced, except the USMC is much more screwed when they only have the carrier to spawn. Havoc can kill the blackhawks trying to reach the beach, and the millions of APCs, tanks, and FAVs can keep most boats for landing. Su and the Mig bombing the carrier = total rapage.

And from my experiance, MEC has the advantage on Clean Sweep. That map blows though.

yes, i agree, karkand is the most balanced map in the game, so balanced that USMC wins 90% of the time.

and the same can be said for sharqi with mec winning 90% of the time

i dont understand how these maps can be considered balanced

Seems you're right on given your premise of no-rape and 1:1 balance as a goal. So that covers part of the BF2 world, it's cool we get a choice.

Humbly I submit that all the maps for BF2 are balanced well enough when vanilla is played as designed with all the strategic play included. It is the no-base-rape type rules that create balance issues. By reading the pre-game scenarios not all the battles are intended to be 1:1 equal footing (like RTJ giving USMC an extra tank if they can cap the Outpost). Some give a slight plus to one side or the other to create various strategic, tactical and teamwork problems to overcome. That's as it should be modern wars don't tend to be equal.

It's the players that unbalance maps like Strike at Karkand and Sharqi Peninsula. Both maps are very good balanced and at Karkand i would rather say it's in the favour for MEC if they know how to play. But mostly the MEC team on ranked & public servers is full of point whoring fools.

And if the MEC always wins on Sharqi Peninsula then simply blame the AH-1Z helo team and the USMC commander. Usually a good helo team and commander in the USMC team are enough to win the round and don't let the MEC capture one flag.

Indeed - such crappy rules to enhance fairplay (taking the balance of a map and favouring the other team is fairplay?) are the factor for balance issues.

Agreed. GW is the best. I wish it was played more.
It seems like a LOT of people enjoy it, but theres hardly any servers running it....hint to server admins.
A 24/7 GW server would be the best.

IMO, the only balanced maps in the game is where both teams have 1 or 2 starting bases and all others start as neutrals (Conquest: Double Assault??).
Each team gets a fair chance at taking flags and has a set amount of vehicles each, which are usually equal to each other...i.e. balanced.
Those maps are Daqing, FuShe, Mashtuur, Songhua, Zatar, Ghost Town, Great Wall and Midnight Sun.
Taraba is iffy, and Smoke Screen is kinda balanced...but if one team gets 3 or more CP's - they have a massive armour advantage and probably wont lose that.
I dont see how you can regard Sharqi and Karkand as balanced...MEC dominate Sharqi unless the team is full of Privates against a US team of 2ndLt's and upwards. Jalalalalabad is also massively unbalanced and in the USMC favour, in the complete reverse of Sharqi.

But, at the end of the day, it does come down to the player balance. And with maps such as Wake the way they are - all high ranks will switch to PLA for the J10 and the easy win and baserape.

You know what's funny, i don't think i've ever played Shongua Stalemate 64 player map. I think i'm gonna do that now. Gonna try owning the APC's with the Blackhawk, i was doing pretty good on Dragon Valley by parking the BH on the mountain and blowing up APC's as they drive along. It only takes roughly 5 seconds to destroy them

And yeah I just realised how easy it is to be Assault on those maps, especially with an AK47. Lots of Anti-Tank troops and Engineers + Fast jeeps that can avoid most armour = Easy kills

Zatar wetlands is the most balanced map i reckon.

Sharqi is one of the most unbalanced--mainly because as mec you can attack from any base (pretty much) unless the USMC have a good chopper crew to foil there attempts. rarely happens because there always getting raped at the top of the tv station by the mi-28.

I think Jalalabad is pretty unbalanced, in favour of the USMC because they have an uncappable point and the MEC don't.
