  • Buying Some New Parts for my Rig, I need GUARANTEED ADVICE ON THIS.
Ok, I currently have an A8N-E motherboard. A school buddy of mine bought two new video cards to run in SLI, so he is ditching his 7600GT. I have a 7600GT but mine is STOCK OVERCLOCKED. Will the two video cards be compatible? I want to make sure because I do not want to buy a new motherboard (A8N SLI Delux) and power supply, just to have this whole thing fail. Basically, mine is the 7600GT Stock OC and his is the 7600GT.

He's giving it to me for $50 CAD, damn good deal .

if you have a good enough power supply, cooling, and your mobo has dual PCIe, and the cards are both SLI compataible, yes.
I'm also buying a better power supply, it's the Ultra 600WAT SLI Ready power supply, I also don't want to return one of those with my motherboard and pay for the shipping again if this fails. The mobo I have isn't SLI compatible, but the new one will be.

hmm, well, check up the cards, and see if theyre both SLI compatible, then probably you'll be able to, but I can't guarentee, having two cards from two different manufacturers = slight , slight chance it wont work. you have to make sure both are SLI compatible though.

tHEY NEED TO BE EXACTLY THE SAME, LIKE A 7600 WILL NOT WORK WITH A 7600GT OC

They are both from BFG and both are SLI compatible.

Lep, can I downgrade my card to work with the other one? By the way, mine is a 7600GT as well, not just a 7600.

if theyre both BFG, 7600GTs, SLI compatible, they will work, and if they don't you have to downclock the OC one to match the same speed as the other (I dont think clock speeds don;t have to be the same though, and I think BFG OCs are only a few MHz difference)

Thank you for the help thus far, +1'd. Can anyone else re-assure me on his post, since I'm not exactly "balling with money" to be fucking around like this. .

Not guaranteed to work. I'd say it is quite unlikely to work for SLI you really want 2 identical cards.

If you're unsure about it, I'd give it a miss.

2) Mixing Cards: You can use a GeForce 7800 GTX from manufacturer ABC with a GeForce 7800 GTX from manufacturer XYZ. However, you must still use two graphics cards that have the same GPU. For example, a GeForce 7800 GT must be matched with another GeForce 7800 GT (not with a GeForce 7800 GTX or a GeForce 6800 Ultra). Likewise, you cannot mix the GeForce 7800 GTX 512 with the GeForce 7800 GTX.

So, my BFG 7600GT overclocked will work with a BFG 7600GT non-overclocked?

Identical cards would be the key here. BUT unlike ATI, where you need a MASTER card to run crossfire setup, Nvidia has a better chance at running SLI like you want if the cards are as similar as possible.

Hope it works out. If not that card is easy to unload for $50.

The cards are indentical, they are even made by the same company, the ONLY difference is that mine has a slightly faster clock speed since it's overclocked. That doesn't even matter though, since I checked the site and it said that it will work. Thanks for the help anyways, this thread can be deleted/closed/left to die or whatever now.

Thanks and +1 too all who helped.

I think the it will down clock your OC'd card to match the other, if I remember right. But it should work just fine for ya!

They will both clock down to default... why don't you OC both your cards?

Thats wrong actually according to NVidia as long as the are the same GPU family ( ie 7600 are GPU7 ) they will work in SLI mode clocked at the slowest cards settings..
