well im trained soldier in teh austrian army.. in a force recon unit.
we had some trainigs with NATO troops and US forces where there...
whilst normal army is depending on their infrastructure the marines or a single MEU (marine expeditionary unit) can operate 30-40 days on their own in enemy terretory. they got their own lil army.. choppers LAVs and each MEU ahs a Force REcon detachment. wich is the most common unit to declare as Spec Ops in the Marines. also each MEU is now Special Operations Detachable. Meaning they can provide Spec Ops but in another sense than the SEAL's or even 1st SFOD-Delta. SEALS have another spectrum of operations whilst Marines "mostly" go into fight with a platoon. the SEALs can operate from 1 man to 12 man in Boat squadrons which form in the end a platoon.
these are very specalised. each man has a special training in one aspect of the operations.. languages, techninc, demolitions, weapons, vehicles and so on... all are divers.. and can oiperate from sea to land and counterwise but they can also operate airborne.. which gives them the name SEa Air Land.
Army Delta was founded by Colonel Charles Beckworth in 1978, which is comparable to SEAL Team 6 (each SEAL team has a different kind of operations spectrum) for counter terror and hostage rescue,
back to the marines... Force Recon however is also a very elite Unit.. each Corporal can try to pass the tests, and if he doesnt fail he gets into a very unique unit.. the Marines themselves feel alone very special because they are one of the 5 main battle forces but with just a little more 174000 active duty marines. meaning they are the smallest of the forces. and are always the spearhead of most US interventions from 1775.
Force recon is a Recoinance Unit which provides Info about and behind enemy lines. trained with parachites and also diving these men can be compared to the SEALs.. still the SEALs have a better and speecialised training. also we cannot forget about the Green Berets.. like wise Normal Army Special Forces,, from which the so called A-Teams are founded. They can be compared to SEAL in puncto specialisation but not in fighting style the Green Berets are more specialised than the SEALs in Languages and contacting local troops to organise fighting unit made out of Locals.
