Whether you are using Firefox or Internet Explorer, Maxthon or Opera, there is no "safe" browser. This statement comes from Symantec as part of its twice-yearly Internet Security Threat Report, which showed attackers were no longer primarly focusing on Internet Explorer.

While Internet Explorer remains the most frequently targeted browser, accounting for 47 percent of all attacks, in the first six months of this year more vulnerabilities have appeared in Mozilla Firefox than within IE. 47 flaws were discovered in Firefox, compared with 38 for IE.

Dur is right but unfortunately there are many that operate under the myth that browsers such as firefox are more secure when according to that article it was hit harder during the first 6 months of this year. It never hurts to hammer home obvious stuff like Internet security.

I know there isn't a safe browser but firefox and opera are still safer to operate with than IE 6. There isn't going to be an 100 percent safe browser. Never...

Although there are fewer critical vulnerabilities in Firefox than in IE. Just thought I'd point that out. Minor vulnerabilities are less of a problem than serious ones and IE has more of them.

That graph is a year old. I am talking about this year, more specifically the first 6 months. According to Symantec at least.

Edit:Looking closer I see that asid from one month over 2 years ago the extreme threats are about the same.

Yeah, I am a bit behind the times. Is that just vulnerabilities that have been confirmed by Mozilla and MS or is it all identified vulnerabilities, that distinction often doesn't get made and the figures can be quite different.

PRECISELY! Also, these hardly 'life-threatening' 'flaws' in FF are often due to problems with Microsoft themselves, and their OS. Needless to say, I'm happier using FF than IE anyday. I'll reccommend it to friends, but in retrospect, I'm happy that IE has the majority so that it is the most targeted browser.

Here's the scoop on how they set up their own rogue CA, by (from what I can figure) reversing the hash and engineering a collision up in MD5 space. Until now, MD5 collisions have been ignored because nobody would put in that much effort to create a useful dummy file, but a CA certificate for phishing seems juicy enough to be fodder for the botnets now."

Completely correct Kmar, that was known for a long time, but the question was always; which browser is the least unsafe

Firefox and Opera are vastly more secure than IE.

However, neither of them are perfect. There are lots of security risks for Firefox and Opera. However they update very regularly, and focus on security.

Two words: Don'tsurfonpornsites and NoScript.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

If I want to go to shady places I use my special linux VM for that. When I'm done I'll revert to an old snapshot
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
