I suck at gunning and flying so until recently I stay out of the helicopters (and planes for that matter) and then I read a thread on here about TV missiles and how there are a lot of people who can't use it. The same advice was given out there, go in a single player and practice. I did just that, and it soon became clear why I sucked with the TV missile, in the heat of battle I had never spotted the target cross that you place with the mouse, I was just clicking at the edge of the screen thinking that meant maximum amount of turn.

Now I have seen how the TV missile works they are so easy to control.

For the original poster: It's FUN to TV infantry. AND maybe the gunner (I do that myself rather often), has the TV mode on most of the time, because he's expecting you to point him at the bigger dangers (armor, helos, AA thingies). So ofcourse he will shoot the TV and then switch to guns afterwards. It's not uncommon. For this reason you have a couple of hellfires you can use at your leisure.
As for the gunners who will take on armor with the MG.... Well, either he's out of TV ammo (or reloading), or he's a noob who dont know how to use the Tv... Alternatively, you'r a sucky pilot who cant line up the shots. In the latter case, I recommend that you go gunner once in a while yourself, so you know what that's about. In the first case, I'd say, try to only fly with people of a sergant rank or higher (unless ofcourse they're good gunners DESPITE their low rank).

Beyond that.... Go read the gazillion posts in the complaints section about EXACTLY the same thing. And next time you feel like venting, post there.

I think I'm a decent gunner, especially compared to some of the retards I've been a pilot for, and the only time I'll kill infantry with a tv missle is if I'm already on the tv missle screen.  Sometimes I see targets better with that screen and I also know that's what my pilot is looking at, so instead of trying to switch back to mg sometimes I'll just fire a tv missle to take them out.  Nothing to do with how cool it is or whatever, just quick and effective.

Gunners that use mg on armor just don't know what the hell they are doing.  It's possible that you aren't setting them up good enough for the shot, but even if that's the case it's a lost cause to shoot with mg, they should just spot them and wait for a good set up or move on to other targets.

VOIP or teamspeak is a must.

BTW, if anyone is looking for a good gunner or mediocre pilot, add me on x fire.  I just got it but don't have anyone to use it with yet.  I usually play on European server since I'm in Italy.


Edit:  Damn, second time in 24 hours that the guy right before me said almost exactly the same thing.
