What was America doing spying on China in the first place? I think if America chooses to put a leash on everyone just to maintain the highest militaristic power, then it's inevitable. From reading some of the comments in this thread, alot of people are venting their anger at China. Keep in mind that the newspaper is from the UK, an ally of America, obviously their arguments are biased and opinionated.

And for those who fear that China will rise and take over the whole world, I don't think the Chinese officials are that stupid. Which country with an economy driving global economic growth would jeopardise it by being everyone's enemy? In this day and age, it's all about diplomatic relations which is based alot on the strength of the country's economy. Military power and brute force can't bring you everything anymore.

This is not aimed at any particular person, but being a person who has stood on both sides of the argument, I just think some people need to be a little more open before spreading the doctrine of the Western world.

I agree with you. This thread just goes to show what sort of people there are out there. And when the boffins said that the 21st century would be the Asian century they didn't neccessarily mean that China and India would take over the world, ffs.

Come on let's not attack anyone here.

The US has thrived off the two world wars, and in the process built itself up militaristically and economically. China on the other hand has had over 5000 years of history, and in that time built itself up culturally. If it were not for China's peaceful nature it too would have prospered out of the second world war. So now China's doing what the US has been doing since WWI and the US is concerned. They're looking at it.  I doubt anything will happen, the risk of Chinese retaliation is a fair deterrant.  And whether Taiwan is a sovereign nation is debatable.

China is an economic powerhouse. It is driving world economic growth at historic levels through its demand for resources and technology. Don't say that the US aren't reaping astronomical rewards from this growth.

But on the other hand the US constantly keeps a check on China, spying on its activities, prying around where decency dictates it shouldn't. The US is unwilling for China to invest in anything else but that which would maintain this growth and advantage the US. The west are treating China as if it were their pet to leech off wealth and prosperity, and don't want it to have its own freedom.

China is just exploring ways to nullify American technological advantages, similar to things Russia has done in the past. It would be irresponsible from a Chinese national security point of view to continue to have US satellites observe Chinese territory unimpeded. I would expect the US to do no less if the situation were reversed.

But I don't think China is gearing up for anything in particular given this and this not to mention that a Chinese invasion of the US is impossible and the Chinese are not investing in offensive military capabilities or logistics that would enable the kind of power projection that the US is capable of. This seems to be mostly defensive in nature.
