I paid for BF2, i played BF2, i downloaded and installed the patches for BF2 so that i could continue to play BF2...

Patch 1.3 was a dead loss i agree, but why would you release 1.4?

Since 1.4 i have been plagued with technical issues which render the game un-enjoyable at best. Texture corruption, terrain artifacts and incessant lag; regardless of ping are just a few of the things i have had to put up with every time i have tried to play.

I reinstalled all my drivers and the game but still no change. My PC meets the requirements and has run the game smoothly for the past year but now it plays like buggy pre-release code on a system not meant to run Windows XP.

WHY?

I feel inclined to ask for my money back but I'm anticipating a response along the lines of "you don't have to install the patches, you can play on one of the foreign servers still running 1.0, or just use single player"

Dice is rolling back support for BF2 in preparation for 2142, why then does one of their last patches have to ruin my game?

I for one will NOT be buying 2142, sheerly due to the track record of BF2 fuckups as you mention. Whats the point of spending money on something that you truly know in your heart is gonna be the same deal as BF2. And I could not give a monkies crotchpiece if its the best game the world has ever seen, its bound to get screwed.

I had a similar problem to what you are showing in the bottom picture.  It was caused by my graphics card over heating though, you sure that yours isn't overheating too?

Yeah, I don't think those are from the new patch.  I'd bet your graphics card is either dying or overheating.  It would explain the lag you get regardless of ping too.

This is definitely a graphics card problem.

I un-installed my game then re-installed it and patched it to 1.4 and I swear to god it has not given one problem since. The game has never crashed to desktop, no lag, no glitches. You lose all you favorite servers but it is a small price to pay for a bug-free game. Try it you won't regret it.

I guess I've just been lucky.  Other than the disconnect problems, due to server side crashes, that were frequent with the 1.3 patch I haven't had any technical issues with this game.  Yeah, I would get the CTD once in a blue moon, but that was it.

I have an ATI RADEON 9800XT, i have spent a few weeks identifying the patch as the cause of the problems, the bottom picture is actually from my GPU overheating pre-1.4; i was just using it as an example of texture corruption - it looks the same, minus the wacky colours.

The current problems are definitely down to the patch and not my GPU though, their onset was perfectly coincided with the patch and all my other games run fine (including Oblivion which has about the same requirements as BF2).

I'm put off by the way in which BF2 runs, which is very dirty. Its the only game i have run which affects the operation of my PC for about 5 minutes after i close it. It also regularly freezes and requires me to restart; on doing so i discover my GPU's RAM is full of garbage and behaves badly when it switches to hardware rendering on startup, meaning i have to disconnect my PC from the wall and wait for it to discharge. No other game interferes with my hardware like this.

I might try another clean patch like JimmyBotswana suggested because i think these problems might be down to all the previous patches clogging the works and not just the 1.4 patch being bad, so ill download 1.4 full and try that.

1.4 has given me constant lag, numerable CTD's, many Connection Problems, and a lot of other shit that has pissed me off. Battlefield 2 is fucked; they need to do the players a favor and give a well-experienced mod team a chance to make an official patch.

Pretty much what Mav wrote, if you have been tempted to update the drivers from ATI recently let me tell you that when ATI state on their website "Only install new drivers if you are experiencing problems", they aren't saying it for a laugh.

Until recently I had an ATI graphics card and updating the drivers gave exactly the problems you are seeing. Eith roll back you drivers or try installing the drivers that came with your graphics card. If you don't have a disc, go to the website for your graphics card manufacturer and you should find the recommended driver there.

I only have the bundle drivers that came with my card installed, haven't tried what i said yet (15 mins till my download is finished). This is definitely down to the patch though, all those people saying "BF2 just doesn't like you're PC" should read my first post; BF2 has been running without a hitch since it came out. If a reinstall doesn't work ill just leave it; I'm getting a new computer in '07 for Vista and if BF2 decides not to work seamlessly on that ill give up and go play a game with less flawed coding (and a smaller community of 9 y/o's fucking multiplayer)

thats the whole point... 1.4 came out and 90 percent of us have had BETTER times.... so SOMETHING that has to do with yer computer hardware and software setup does NOT like the 1.4 patch... if it was JUST the patch.. then ALL of us would have problems...

thats why i suggested that if nothin else works.. even the new download... start fresh... reformat and reinstall EVERYTHING... heck.. i do that about every 3 to 4 months for the hell of it and to keep things fresh...

I don't see how all you people have such trouble. Mine has worked fine and continues to do so.

In this case the fisrt thing to do is uninstall, reinstall, download/install a full patch, and try it again. These partial patches are a load of bull. The just plain do not work.

ALWAYS USE FULL PATCHES

What happens to the game when you turn your settings down? Does it still have corruptions? My desktop has 2 EVGA 7800GT COs and my laptop has a Nvidia 7600, never had any problems with the game. No glitches/corruptions to speak of. It's either the ATI drivers or hardware compatibility, or possibly overheating the 9800XT. Could you post the rest of your system specs and the setting your using?

Remember BF2 is optimized for Nvidia GPUs. And don't worry about 2142, a 9800XT would never suffice.

Take Septimius’ advice, man.  As he said, if it was the patch, it would’ve screwed up every single person’s game, too. I know it’s frustrating to have a system that doesn’t work smoothly with the game.  In the past, I’ve had similar experience with other games and it is annoying.  I didn’t rip the game, though . . .  I upgraded.  BF2 requires a lot of system resources to run smoothly as I’m sure you know, but it’s not seriously flawed or it wouldn’t have hundreds of servers and 10s of thousands still playing actively.  Good luck with your new system and for God’s sake, buy NVidia.  It’s what these games are optimized for.

I'm not ripping on the game because my system can't run it, I'm ripping on the patch because my game hasn't run properly since i installed it. The problem is remedied anyway, i did a full reinstall and that didn't fix it so i put my video settings on low which fixed the problem instantly, add an hour of fiddling with settings so it runs well and looks good and you have reinvested faith. I think some random setting like dynamic lighting or shadows was the problem, though I'm not sure what the last patch did to these settings that forced me to change them.

P.S: I refuse to buy Nvidia because of their offensive "the way its meant to be played" splash screens at the beginning of every game i have bought this year.

Just to tell you... 2142 comes out this October I'm pretty sure, anyone correct me if I'm wrong. You should have googled for some sites that recommend what you should run BF2 at, like this, that was after typing "BF2 settings" into google and it was the first site that came up... So research harder before you say it's the patch.

-_- yes... I'm sure thats the first thing everyone who's settings that have been working fine for months would do when their game suddenly starts fucking them around... I know when 2142 comes out, i just don't feel it's so important that I should buy a new system to run it when it comes out, then update again for Vista, you guys sure love lording information you assume somone doesn't know over them, seriously - get a life.

My CTD problems have been less.  I think 1.4 has been an improvement.
