Hello.

I'm getting a new graphics card and I am wondering which one is the best.

1. Sapphire Radeon X1600 PRO 512MB

2. XFX Geforce 7600GS 256MB

Welp Now if you want an honest opinion I would go for the sapphire X1600Pro.

Now, both cards are 12 pipeline cards, with 128bit interface. BUT, the 1600 Will do higher resolutions, and will do much better in games when you use such things as AA and AF settings. Also, The 512 MB of DDR2 memory will help alot when a game needs it.

Now if you do get this card, Be sure to look around for the tweak guide for the BF2 game, where you Bypass the pagefile on the Hard drive, This will make the game use that 512mb of memory on the card, Thus speeding up the game alot.

Plus, ATI cards have Much better Image Quality.

GL and Happy Gameing.

Thanks for the tip. But I don't know what tweak guide you mean.
I'd be grateful for a link and you'll have a +1 for it as well

Heres a post i did a few days ago Its a copy and paste so dont pay too much attention to the first part. But heres the links.

You say its a 478, yes thats the type of socket, But what kind? Use a program called everest home  google it and install it. Its free. It will tell you anything you want to know about your computer. Ill post a link to it if you like. I could then maybe get some help for you to maximize your computer to get you better FPS that your getting if i can find out what it is you actually have.

Heres the link        http://oldversion.com/program.php?n=everesthome

PAy special attention to tip #2 and tip #8 and Good luck

Yeah, the Pro is actually the way to go.  The $120 card at newegg is PCI-e...  Most of the Pros have been flashing to XT's no problem anyway.

I've read the 7600 has gotten much more favorable reviews than the x1600, which seems to be disappointing, in general.

Okay I'll check it out. Thanks for help. Maybe if I expand my budget I'm able to get the 7800GS with 512MB RAM=)

I bet that it'll look good on the dancefloor dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984.

It would be sweet.

One thing I don't get is that the cards cost as much but one of them is 512MB and the other one is 256MB. I'd guess the 512MB would be better and more expensive..

Anybody got some thoughts about the 7800GS 512MB card that I'm also considering to buy?
It's far better than the X1600 and 7600GS I presume.

The 7800 Is much better specially if it has the 512mb of Ram. If you can afford it Get it. The X850 thats being talked about will cost more in the long run, because winter on the way, you WILL need third party cooling for the card because they run very very hot. resulting in all kinds of nice glitches if its not cooled right.

I usually get test cards sent to me, So i cant give a pretty good estimate on them. Havent gotten the new cards yet, but hopeing to test them soon for the sake of just seeing them work. Bummer is, i have to send them back when done LOL
