To begin, i am most definatly not the best player in the world at bf2, far from it. However i think i have enough experience with all the weapons on this game, and from my POV, unlocks are no better than stock, but stock are no better then unlocks.
For example, the g36e. Some would say that the ak101 is a far better rifle, as it has much more power per shot. However, it sucks over long range, whereas at distance, even on 3shot burst, i can still headshot easily with a g36e. On the other hand, i wouldnt dream of using the 36e on Karkand, as the tight alleys and so on, make the power of the ak101, much more suited to that enviroment.
Example 2, pkm v rpk. I occasianly use the pkm to "snipe" with, on sharqi, in the crane, however, if i was to try that with a rpk, i would fail miserably. wandering around with a squad however, in cqb, the rk simply owns, it can mow through entire squads, and its ROF cancels out the bad accuracy, as ther is simply so much lead in the air, it doesn't matter.
So, to end this short thread, no one weapon is rubbish, or particularly "leet", it is simply how the weapon is used, dependant on the circumstances, and most importantly, the user. Feel free to flame :p
