I made two partitions on my main HD (36GB @ 20 + 16) and installed XP on one part, and Vista on the other. I got tired of Vista so I formatted that part of the HD but now I am still getting the initial OS selection menu when I boot up. I would like to go back to just having it go straight to XP at boot time. There is no boot.ini file in my Windows folder, just a boot.bak (which I'm guessing Vista made when I installed it) at the root of my C drive. Can I just rename that and place it in my windows folder and everything is fine? Or is there a way to make my own boot file. Thanks.

sounds like you need to tell you're bios system which Hard drive/Partition to boot from, otherwise, make sure that the partition that Vista was installed in was completely formatted so that it can be re-written

u should have a boot.ini file and that is what shows that Windows XP logo load up screen, u can change that so that it shows any pic u want...i use Style XP for that. but that BAK file might be the issue, because if u replace or copy the boot.ini file, it will always ask you which boot.ini file u want to boot from

right click my computer>properties>advanced>startup and recovery>settings> select what you want it to boot with and edit the boot.ini. Just delete out the boot up you don't want to be there.

This is what mine looks like:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptOut
