Honestly, I'm an idiot when it comes to graphics cards.  Since alot of people have gotten some good help from here, I'm hoping someone can help me out.  I'm currently building a PC, yet its pretty much bare bones, with on board graphics, and 256MB ram.  Right now, ram wont be a problem, as my friends gonna give me some for free, however getting a graphics card is my own ordeal.  Sadly, I really cant afford more the $50 to get a card, and I want something better then my cruddy nvidia 5200 I'm running on my current machine.

I honestly don't know the specs to well, as I'm building it as part of a senior class, and really am new to the whole build your own PC thing(sad I know) but I do know the components so far.

AMD Athlon chip( cant remember the name, forgive me)supposedly 3.2GHZ
256MB ram
80gig harddrive
CD/DVD drive
i only have PCI and PCI-Express slots, no AGP
Also the power supply is a 350w
Sorry I cant be more helpful, like I said I'm still new to the BYOPC thing.

Anyways, the card I'm looking at is
This one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814130006

But I'm not sure if its that good(hopefully better then the 5200 stock on my HP running BF2 at all low)
Also, I know Nvidias classification on cards, but not ATIs so if anyone can recommend a better card of any type in my price range Id really appreciate it, and please bear with my noobiness.

You need more RAM before you buy anything else

What's your price limit for everything? That computer will run nothing but 16 player karkand on all low with 50% view distance the way you have it now. You might get it to 100% view distance with the new card.

it cant be a 3.2 unless oc the highest i have seen one is 2.8 and assuming you have no clue about processors you didnt mess with bios and even 1gig gave me trouble. 1st thing 2gigs of ram. 7900gs about $220

To the OP I say this.  It's just not going to happen.  You are not going to get a $50 video card that is going to be any better than the 5200 you have.  If you can scrounge up $100 you have a much better shot at finding something worth buying.

Yes, I know the ram sucks, but that wasn't the point, my friends gonna give me around 512 more, I'm just trying to see if the card is good or not.  As for the processor speed, thats an estimate from my teacher(electrical engineer for 20years) as AMD is always shown slower then its true speed.  All I really want is a card that can run BF2, my 5200 is integrated on my other PC(or so my computer tells me) and is fine, all low is good for me, i don't mind a little bit of lag here and there.  It seems to me, no one understood what I was asking.  I know I need more ram, but its either a cheap graphics card or integrated on my motherboard, which isn't gonna run much of anything.

Id like to play BF2 on it, and 2142 whens its released, i could put 4 gigs in it, but onboard graphics arent gonna run the game, no point getting more ram when you cant play anything.

EDIT: On a side note, on my other machine, a 3GHZ 512mb ram and my crappy 5200 i run on all low, with textures on medium and view distance at 100% without to much difficulty, so I dont understand why my new pc(which is better in almost everyway) would be running it lower.

That card MIGHT be okay...I started BF2 on a 6600GT, which uses 128 of GDDR3 in stead of 256 of DDR.
I suppose you would want to evaluate it quick since you will only have 15 days, and newegg will charge a restocking fee if you return it

This is the kind of help im looking for rather then "save your money".  I honestly could care less about graphics, im fine on all low with my 5200. The 6600 looks like the best I can afford, as right now, my income is about $5 a week, take me years to save up for a $130 card.  Im just looking for a card that will run BF2, is cheap, and isnt a buggy or something.  Ill look into the 9550 as well, thanks.

EDIT: Looked into the 9550, seems its an AGP card, and sadly, the card looks pretty good, but my new motherboard is only PCI and PCI-E
