This is my 1st onljne game. Seems you lot all have experience of BF1942, What is it like? Is it worth buying and are people still playing it or have they moved on ? Cheers.
It was worth it a couple of years ago, but there are almost no servers left. If you really really want to play battlefield, either buy BF2 or BF2142.
there is still a small (and I mean small) community that plays BF1942, and it is a good game. However, after playing BF2 you will find that the movement and gameplay itself is a little slow and clunky.
The fact that some...although a small amount,.....still play that old game, and even online...might make you wonder....that it IS in essence a good game...I wonder if BF2 will still be around after a couple of years, maybe time will flush out the bad seeds in online game playing....
But still, I don't think buying it, if you enjoy battlefield games, will do you any harm.
Just to be clear, I think BF2 has a chance of becoming a classic....but....

It might give you an idea on what to expect from 1942 from today's perspective.
While you can get 1942 and Vietnam in some quite cheap packages, I still wouldn't bother buying them. Go buy "Call of Duty 2" or something. Good game in multiplayer and good game with good story in single player.

i miss some of the maps, alot. Desert Combat is worth the price of 1942. buy BF2, look for mods that are still coming out (Forgotten Hope 2, etc)
It's a great game, I think some of it takes more skill. It's more infantry based than BF2 in my opinion and tanks are a lot less deadly with the fact that one rocket from behind could kill them easily. I heard there's still a community for it but haven't tried it myself. As for BF2, I'm sure it won't die out just because of BF2142. A lot of people want the realistic modern war factor rather than this new futuristic crap, so most of the people will stick with BF2. Also one thing I'm looking forward to is the fact that most immature people in BF2 will probably switch to BF2142 making BF2 that much more enjoyable.

considerably better than bf2. cept if they would just COMBINE the two games. OMG!
Awsome game, me and my buds (bout 10 of us) still play it. about 20 populated servers usually, 5 with 40+ people in em. Remember that you gotta patch to 1.6, then the mini 1.61 patch. Dog fighting requires skill, as with any other aspect of the game. You'll find it annoying going from BF2 to 1942, slower, harder at times, most servers kick for profanity of any kind. But the majority of guys are 20+, even guys in their 30's. Most servers got TS servers running and will give you ip for TS. I'm actually thinking of picking up a couple more copies for other computers in my home so I can lan with bro and friends and such.

Oil fields
Oilrig
to name a few more

1942 was amazing... the actual dogfights and the total balace of the game made it perfect. If we weren't spoiled by bf2, 1942 would still be awesome.
Flying is a lot more fun in BF1942 than it is in BF2. Bf1942 is still an awesome game, and there are a few servers with a modest amount of patrons still. It's extreamly cheep too as it is about four/five years old, so definatly worth buying.

I still play 1942. It was better for its time than BF2, and even by todays standards it's good. I believe that it was one of the first games(If not THE first) to incorporate the 1st person shooter with land sea and air vehicles. There are at least 7 servers that are usually pretty full(30+people). I definatley reccomend buying it.
Did anyone ever play scorps server 24/7 desert combat berlin CTF?
i found clans in bf1942 were a lot more serious and if u got in a good clan it was sick...why the hell didnt they keep more of the old maps other than wake ffs
1942..good times
