Hey there

I've reinstalled my computer a few days ago and at first I was missing some drivers, but then finally got them yesterday and my computer now seems to work just fine. But When I turn on my computer, the Intel Pentium 4
logo appears but takes maybe 2-3 minutes before it finally moves on to windows loading. This didn't happen before I reinstalled my windows XP Home edition and reformatted my hard drives. Any ideas?

Don't think the specs will do much good since it worked fine before, but anyways:

2,5 GB RAM

Intel Pentium 4 2,99 Ghz

Radeon 9800 XL 128MB

390 GB

All help is very welcome

Check in your bios for quickboot or something along those lines.

Turn it on.

It's just Intel's way of reminding you that you are using one of their processors...

Disconnect your IDE devices and power it up.  After that, does it still hang there?

The BIOS ( Basic Input / Output System ) is what fires up initially in order to load Windows (or other OS) onto your computer.

You can configure various low level settings in the BIOS such as CPU speed, hard drive settings, power settings etc.

Usually you get into the BIOS by switching on your PC and pressing the "Del" key fairly quickly afterwards. You then get a text setup display where you can see and change various settings.

It could be that on your system the BIOS is set to detect drives on all IDE channels at startup. You could speed up startup by disabling unwanted IDE channels.

Just be careful though cos if you disable the wrong thing your PC may fail to boot at all.

Yeah, I checked my BIOS for the first time a few days ago. Pretty neat. Couldn't find anything about processor clock speeds though. Maybe my new computer will have it.

And if your just in there, snooping around, always exit without saving, or you could really mess yourself up.

I have to press F4 to get into my BIOS, but you can just search on Google what to press to get into your BIOS. (depending on your system producer)

all bios' have a different hot key to get into them...most are f11...but press all the hot keys just in case (you can never be to sure, unless it says on the boot menu (very first screen) that another key does something else).

the bios, in a nutshell, controls what/how the motherboard recognizes and reacts with anything thats plugged into it. in a nutshell.

the above comment by 99Ram was a good one: open up your case, disconnect all of the IDE cables (the flat ones, normally gray) and see if it still delays...post the results back here.

and to King_country, i wouldnt let your shitty x2 suck my c2d's dick...so can it.

Thx for all replies. I figured it out. Seemed like the driver was bad or something because I reinstalled lots of drivers and now everything is back to normal Thanks for the help though.
