There is shockscaring, like Hostel (worst movie ever) and the TCSM (pretty good)

I don't know what makes a scary movie scary for me. Probably the very subtle aspects. The things that you kind of notice out of the corner of your eye. The camera dosn't focus on it as such, but you're sure you saw it.
The Jap version of "The Grudge" had the done perfectly, then Hollywood butcherd it, homogenised it and slapped it on a plate to serve to the english speaking world. Sub titles or not, the Jap Grudge kicks arse.

What makes a scary movie worth seeing however is a different story: Paris Hilton getting an iron pole thrown through her head has got to be a big reason to see a movie. House of Wax FTW!

Honestly though, that striptease she did for her on-screen boyfriend almost made me vomit. Now THAT is scary!

I also liked Dawn of the Dead. Fuckin' killer Zombie movie. Too bad about Land of the Dead which sucked.

Very true about the grudge thing. The japanese version was a lot better, but the American version wasn't too bad either. I'm going to go see the 2nd one tonight, then hopefully I can find the japanese version.

Edit: Just got back. Holy crap, did that suck. Didn't make any sense, was almost the same as the first one, and was not scary at all. They just use the same shot of the girl over and over, but they change how she gets there. OMG IT'S THE GIRL'S FACE, BUT THIS TIME IT CAME OUT OF A POOL OF WATER!!
