Why have a froum to ask questions every post I read in here anymore contains "why don't you search" or "this has been covered in twelve other posts." Forgive me if I am wrong but if everyone quits posting will there not be a forum.

I agree, it seems to be a bit of a reflex with some people just reply with a search directive.
I've even had people reply with a genuine answer to a post and then tell me to search.

I've noticed a number of times when I've used search, I get a list of threads and then have to read through them all until I find one that actually answers the question. Most threads start with a question followed by 5 people who just say "SEARCH!!!" or else call the OP names and then say "SEARCH!!!". If there weren't so many posts saying "SEARCH!!!" then people might actually find something when they do search and not have to post it again...

It is so hypocritical (by the forum, as an entity its self) to tell people to search, to be honest questions and opinions are repeated in different contexts all of the time. If people followed the rules by the book then there would be nothing left or very few things to talk about and therefore there would be no forum. In other words the goal that the forums strive to achive will be redundant.

Here's the thing, so many topics cross over into one another. So a game related question might derail into a tech thread about someones rig, or how you have your settings. Or maybe it brings out the personal attacks and becomes totally unrelated to gaming, etc. So even if you DO use the search button, it's hard to narrow the search to a specific forum. Regardless, you literally get hundreds of returns on searches (at least in my experience). But I know the "Search Nazi's" have been coming out of the woodwork lately, so I actually took the time to search one of my most recent tech questions...wait for it...here it comes...
THREE DAYS!!! It took me three days to finally realize that none of the threads that turned up on the search actually helped me. Granted, I wasn't sitting in front of my computer for 72 hours straight, but realistically, I'd say I spent a good 6-7 hours, over the course of three days, after refining my search so much that to refine it any further would give me zero results...instead I went through 17 pages. And then I ended up starting a new thread anyway. Well you know what, it's not worth it to me. So, I just don't start threads anymore...for the most part.
