i have been looking at my graphics with everything on high and X6 AA, then i put my graphics on low and it so much easier to spot people, if your sniping and hiding in a corner with high graphics people cant see you and walk straight past cause of the shadow, but on low there are no shadows to cover you

same on karkland with dust issues, more dust on high

do you think the people with high graphics should have a better advantage then people with low

i really dont think it is fair

On low, people don't draw as far out, and you don't see muzzle flash in alleys, etc. I think there's been plenty of arguments on this, and overall High graphics w/ smooth FPS will be better.

Higher graphics is better aswell because when someone fires you see it, whereas on low cyou cant.

Is the x1600 pro AGP 512mb a good gfx card? I might upgrade my 9550 to that. And does the card recquire a beast power source?

Its a pretty good card. Most decent cards need a decent power supply, i think it needs atleast 450W

Low terrain + High Texture Detail = REALLY obvious infantry

High Geometry = Higher view distance

Lighting on Low = Almost No Shadows (and the shadows that r left r so faint they do nothing) = no place to hide

Do what you want with the rest.

Simple, have everything on High, bar the shawdow's, and your good to go.  I maintain, after a graphical upgrade from struglin at low, to pretty smooth medium, it's allowed me to really improve, plus not needing to squint my eyes thinkin,

'Is that a sni....'

BANG, DEED!

OMFG HAXOR!

SO aye, high be betta, or happy medium

I aint got the best vid card..but it can handle shadows on low..but I found when I put lightning to low and shadows off that I can actually see snipers and not like what Bell said '' is that a sni...'' and your dead. I got everything on high and texture detail on medium, with lightning on low, rest off and that just works fine for me.

Thanks for the tip.  Can anyone else confirm the first 2 suggestions?  If so, I'll switch up my settings.

well i ahve a 7800gt and i put everything on low except texture and geometry and effects on medium 8x AA and 16x AF= 70-80 fps on a 64 player server= ownage
i used to play everything on high but i would only get about 40 FPS in big servers sp i dropped everything to low/medium and now my i constantly get about k/d ratio of over 2 for pretty much anyday that i play instead of just over 1

for people that have high end graphics cards turn you graphics down they dont really make too much of  difference and what you get back is way more FPS

FPS= ownage

Exactly why I play on all low.

But what about high geometry?  Does it really = high view distance as TheEternalPessimist suggests?

Geometry: The Geometry setting controls the Level of Detail (LOD) setting for various objects and landscape in the game. The options are Low, Medium and High and for most intents and purposes there is virtually no difference between the three levels. At higher levels certain objects will appear more detailed, such as rounder boulders and more curved landscape (i.e. more polygons visible). More importantly, at the higher levels vehicles will come into view sooner when far away, as more of their details are shown earlier. Obviously performance is better at the lowest level, but the extent of it depends on your system. For the reason that it may help you detect vehicles sooner, you may want to set this to Medium or High.

Before I ran everything on "Medium" but now I like my customized settings a little better.

Which setting specifically helps you see enemy guns firing (gun flare) better?  Effects or dynamic lighting?

Dynamic Light: This setting relates to lighting from muzzle flashes, fire, explosions, missiles etc. The available options are Off, Low, Medium and High. Quite obviously turning these lights Off reduces realism significantly, but improves performance noticeably. Dynamic lights interact with objects to cast shadows (See Dynamic Shadows setting above), and as such the impact of this setting also depends on your settings for Dynamic Shadows. I recommend Medium or lower for this setting, as a setting of High can contribute greatly to pauses, lag and jerkiness in the game.

on this subject, I'm noticing a lot of frequent and quite annoying lag spikes. My fps is fine, my ping is fine.

Thats what I go with, works well. For instance, Construction Site on Sharqui you can see everyone clear as day. Also, put Dynamic Shadows and Dynamic Light on Low or Off. (thats light and shadows on moving objects, not really necessary). The advantages of lower settings in terms of smooth gameplay and faster loading times outweigh the 'eyecandy' factor IMHO.

problem with shadows "off"/ "lighting low": it's impossible to find those dark spots for your own concealment, assuming most players use high settings. well, you just have to know the map very well...
also, if e.g. a hostile sniper is on that roof you won't spot him casting this parrot-shadow on the ground

also note: "The texture filtering settings at Medium and High should correspond with 2x Anisotropic Filtering (AF) and 4xAF respectively, with Low being Trilinear."  refering to www.tweakguides.com

airwolf: the smoothness of my gameplay increased the most by enlarging my ram from 1GB to 1,5GB. besides i use almost the same hardware as you do. no lagging, even on "high" and on 64 servers.
