An AIPU?

http://aiseek.com/

I came across these guys recently, and it was somewhat of a shock, seeing another company trying to push another (possible) PCI card into an already slot-hungry market. Thought a bit, and thought again. Pathing is one of the things that slowed so many old RTS games down in the past. Perhaps it's a good idea, but will there ever be a market for when personal computers become powerful enough to handle all that without help? Or does this 'card' have a future in big MMO server rooms as the brains for millions of NPC's? A future as software? No future? Will developers be willing to encompass that along with implementing "PhysX?"

I don't like the idea. I don't reckon PhysX will ever be that big either. You can do all these things on the CPU or as Nvidia have suggested that GPUs especially in SLI could be used to better effect. They've teamed up with Havoc too and some of their ideas sound good. The crazy bandwidth for PhysX cards is their only saving grace. I can't see what this would do that you couldn't do with a multi-threaded game on a dual-core CPU.

I like the idea of implementing stuff on hardware you need. Not having a million and one different bits you need to run a game.

Why the hell can't AI be run on a different core of a multi-core CPU? Multi-threaded games FTW.
