Right, I've got my Intel C2D 6400 up to 2.6GHz, but I know that it can go up to a max of 2.8G w/o tweaking voltages etc.

One thing I noticed when I was overclocking was that the rating of the RAM decreases. Is this normal? When running at stock speeds, it comes up as DDR2-PC5300. When I have the proc. at 2.6G, this number decreases to DDR2-PC3200.

Just wondering, does this affect performance? If it does, can I overclock RAM as well?

The Memory is linked to you FSB....so to OC your 6400 you have changed the FSB yes??? .....you can get some MBs that will lock the memory so you only oc the CPU....if you have good quality ram you can Oc that too... the reason your men reduces is it has slacker timings

Ah ok, but my BIOS doesn't have an option for 667MHz

So I can go one above that and it should be ok? The thing is, when I set the RAM speed manually below what it usually is, BF2's performace decreased obviously.

Gonna try Oc'ing memory, cheers for that

I HAvent messed with a DDR2 rig yet, And i stress yet, until the cheap ass Processor comes out in January where i spend $140ish and get 75% overclock LOL. Now, I know the Older computers Bios have options to change the memorys Dividers, Or your memories Speeds (like you say to bring it down to PC3200 and then it overclocks to Higher along with the FSB). Look in your memory section of Bios to see if theres a Memory divider, It Should give you selections of something like, 1:1 1:2 1:4  1:5  or 667 or lower Mhz settings. The Lower Mhz settings should go up as the FSB goes up.

Like i said, i havent messed with a DDR2 and Core 2 Duo rig yet, and i stress Yet, but when i do, MAN i can not Wait. WOOHOOO!. I do have a lappy here with a core duo here, Ill give that a look see and report back. Its a E5300 I think, 1.6 Ghz  With 2gb DDR2 with ATI X1400 Draphics card. Its one i had to fix. Ill give it a go and see whats what.

Most boards wont allow you to OC mem directly as it is linked to the FSB ... so your MB will lower the timing on your Mem so it has less chance of failing...

ie....if your mem is DDR 400......that runs on a FSB or 200..so OCg the FSB to 220 would set your mem at 440!!

you set your mem to 333 your fsb to 220 your mem would be 176 (352 DDR)ish so would be operating within its rated limits...

make sense??

The better rated your Memory the higher you can OC your FSB ...usually before hitting Voltage limits

BAsically what hes saying is, If someone was planning to overclock(like i was) And if you plan on going with a 1:1 divider(that means that every Mhz you raise the FSB, it raises your memory the same Mhz) I went with the PC4000. It gave me more headroom for overclocking to stock Mhz and gave me more room for overclocking the memory as well.

So, if you dont have a Option so set the divider or set you memory lower so you can overclock it along with your FSB rise, then you would go out and get Higher memory to make up for the FSB overclock. Thats about as UnTech as i can put it i guess.

You set your divider to 1:1 which at stock is 266mhz (for you) which equates to 533mhz for your ram. Since you have 667mhz ram you can set your FSB up to 333 to make the ram run at stock speeds. After that your ram is being overclocked...I would expect you could probably go all the way to 400mhz FSB (800mhz RAM) without having to bump the volts.

I must say, your RAM better have heatspreaders if you think you want to run at 400mhz FSB stable 24/7...it will get awful hot!
