FAL LMG ?
Did he not say that it was a SAR-48?

[edit] To contribute something, the only gun I've ever held was an AR-15 (was not allowed to shoot it).
I was amazed at how light it was and it felt easy to handle/aim steadily.

He did indeed.. and I asked if it was an LMG version of the FAL since it looks like a FAL

Originally it was a FAL LMG that Israel developed.  The two most distinct differences are the front hand guard and the longer, heavier barrel (24in instead of the more common 21in).  The SAR 48s came along when Israel surplussed the rifles and sold them to Springfield Armory, who disabled the full-auto feature and converted them for civilian use.  The rifle is one heavy, cumbersome mother but it is accurate as hell and does an amazing job of absorbing the recoil.

I figured that a LMG fireing .308 is accurate... But I'm guessing it might not be the cheapest thing to fire!

.308 ammo isn't as bad as some others.  Still, I don't shoot it much cause there aren't that many with a SAR 48 designation and it's more of a collector's item than anything else.  A perfectly functional and accurate collector's item, but a collector's item none the less.

There were more countries that issued the FAL LMG, Canada comes to my mind. Shame though, Israel tarnished the FAL's reputation by not cutting some simple dust grooves in the bolt.

They did cut those groves in later models to mixed results.  Ultimately, the FAL didn't make a great LMG because it had a 20 round clip with a high rate of fire.  And I know that more countries that just Israel issued FAL LMG's, but all the SAR 48s were built off of the Israeli guns and are covered in Hebrew markings.  Also, the Israelis "tweaked" the FALs into their version of the gun in much the same way they "tweaked" the AK design into the Galil.

100 meters only tells what your rifle is capable of, 700m tells what the shooter is capable of.

Seriously, a 1.5MOA group at 100m?
If that group was any worse, I'd say send the rifle to a 'smith - something's very broken or worn out.

Recip I'm chilled as the moon. I will one day turn up and demand a competition though.

Rdfx, yah that's when I was rusty from a breech explosion, shitting mmyself. I was on my way to a marksman cadre pending pass out to battalion. Sigh

Marksman fyi ain't sniper, sniper cadre is the most intense course and test excluding sf stuff. Marksman is lsw gunner, which is being phased out anyway, so lawlalalwlawl

So yeah, I'm a natural, let me put 50 rounds down on my own and ill take ya bets. I'm like dilbert, only good at shooting.
