After hearing all the negative press this games getting from players, I still decided to give it a shot. So after a 2 hour download I went to town.
x800xl 256MB
1Gb DDR400
amd 64 3000+
All Medium 4x AA 1024x768 settings...game looked a bit better than BF2, but not by much. On bigger servers I lagged, so I dropped texture quality to low and everything was fine and dandy.
Played the titan mode, surprisingly alot of fun, the titan missles were pretty cool, and the new hovercraft were awesome. Perfect mix of chopper and jet. There handling however was a bit Blah. The controls were a bit to tight, but still easy to fly none the less. The rocket pods are great and the gunner "tv missle" is pretty cool...but hard to control as well.
The mech warriors were definately my favorite part of the demo.there a bit slow, but powerful. The tanks could still take them though, but I managed to kill an enemy tank 90% of the time. Those secondary energy balls (what ever you call them) are pretty powerful. The double chain guns dont seem to do much damage even to smaller jeeps, but there good for scare tactics and just out right fear to the enemy.
Infantry was a bit dissapointing. Takes a lot longer for your crosshairs to settle down when going prone than they did in BF2, but its a bit more realistic. Weapons are weak, but still well balanced. Im expecting to see alot of support whoreing in 2142. Assault was underpowered in my opinion. The assault weapons felt no different than the engineer SMG's damage wise.
All in all a job well done. The slower pace makes for longer rounds and just alot more fun IMO. Vehicles are very well balanced.
Ordering the full game tommorow....already reserved my name via veteran program.
