I've never had a problem with lag in BF2 until 2 days ago.  Since then, whenever I run fast, or turn a corner, or come face to face with an enemy I get massive lag.  After I climb a ladder onto a rooftop I start to lag out and then when the lag has died down, I've fallen to my doom.  My ping is usually anywhere between 85-120.  Not the greatest I must admit, but it's never caused me a problem in the past and I've had this game since the day it came out.  Has anyone else been experiencing this at all over the past 2 days or so?  I noticed my lag issues began the day 2142 was released to the public to purchase and download from EA downloader.  Could this tie into why I'm lagging so much?  I haven't fiddled with any settings or installed any new hardware.  I run virus scans and ad-aware scans frequently.  So I'm stumped as to what might be causing my serious lag issues.  Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

One more thing I forgot to mention.  I only seem to get this lag while playing Special Forces.  Don't seem to have a problem with it playing the regular BF2 maps, however I haven't played on a large, or full server when playing the BF2 maps so I can't say for certain it's just a Special Forces problem.

SF does suck down your system a little bit more.  When I play SF, I turn down by graphics a little bit

It could be three things:

[*]You've downloaded something recently like an update file or perhaps changed a setting on your firewall/scanner.

[*]Unless you're playing on servers which host the demo of BF2142 or EA servers, you shouldn't be getting lag from that, although perhaps the servers you're playing on are configuring to add BF2142 support.

[*]Random errors such as memory leak or issues with your ISP, the latter is more plausible by the way.

What I'd recommend is to first try different servers and check your ISP for any recent maintenance work. Then run the game in Single Player mode and see if you're getting the same problems (if you are, then it's due to your system or your BF2:SF files). If they don't work, perhaps considering updating your video drivers, reinstalling BF2:SF or maybe just stick with vanilla BF2.

I have experienced the same thing as you have and the solutions that have been suggested, do not work. It is related to the BF2142 release.

The problem seems to have fixed itself.  Just for those few days I experienced bad lag.  Now it runs smoothly.  Thanks for the suggestions though.
