I noticeed that some of the PLA's weapons are older than even the MEC, How come!?

The PLA's assault rifle in BF2 is AK47, which is a very old gun (although it's a very very good gun)

However in the real, there are NO AK47 IN CHINESE MILITARY SERVICE, the assault rifle which used to service in PLA was Type 56, which is a Chinese modify version of AK47, BUT STILL NOT AK47(at least not that AK47 in the game). However, ever Type 56, it doesn't use by the PLA anymore, just a little use by the Chinese militia and police force, the standard assault rife of the PLA soldier nowaday is the Type 81 and its replacer Type 95 (QBZ95). As well as the Type 56, Type 81 fire 7.62X39 bullet, but more accurate, and it fire grenade from its barrel, Why don't EA replace the AK47 to the ondate but same 7.62X39mm Type 81?

Also, the Type 85 have semi auto mode in real, why EA just ignore it!?

It's a game and they chose to have certain features represented in certain ways. The energy/wounding power of the different guns in the game is quite arbitrary compared to their real-world counterparts, as is the accuracy and some of the other features.

Take the M95 for example, in reality this would often be fitted with a 10x scope and could shoot through both sides of body armour, the guy inside it and carry on to kill the person standing behind... which wouldn't be a good idea in this game for balance.

That Type 03 looks nice. Looks like most countries are finally making their own shit. Instead of annoying crappy Soviet crap with stupid names. Edit: AK101/47 are so awesome in the game though, but still.
I'm sick of those dumb Soviet names that NATO or UN or whoever designate to their arms (Fishbed? FISHBED? These guys are on Crack) and i'm sick of all that "M-XX, F-XX, X-XX" U.S.A stuff.

Just look at the gun/weapon/vehicle names on 2142. Talk about cliche.

Almost ANY weapon (including almost all AK-47/-74/-101 and AR-15/M16 variations) can carry a scope, it has been DICE's problem to think which would carry one in BF2.. It's probavly about the BALANCE of the weapons. (no one liked the invincible M60/L.A.W kit in BFV...)

Just because its capable doesnt mean it has to or typically irl is.

Youre right tho the type 81 should be in the game not the ak-47. I think they put the ak in becuase the type 56 is essentially an ak-47 copy and most widely used gun in the chinese military.

There are functionality differences between the 81 and kalashnikov series of weapons that it desrved its own place. Althouh the gas system bolt and reciever are all ak-47 style..

Not quite yet. They are in the process of replacing the QBZ-95 because apparently the PLA decided it wasnt up to par. But they havent put the QBZ-03 in circualtion yet..

The 03 looks like a Kalashnikov / H&K mutant but maybe its just me. They made their own cartridge the 5.8mm which is quite stupid. All of this seems to just be a stab at distiguishing tmeselves away from Russian design.

Anyhow, ya I noticed the guns are outdated in BF2, I think the reason why AK-47 is implemented instead of Type 56 or 81 is that because AK-47 is just too popular amongst Military enthusiasts so EA could not ignore them.

I think because almost everything starts with "Type" and it's damn confusing. Even for me, I forget what the actual name is to the guns at times.

And the QBZ-97 is the export version. Why can't they call it the QBZ-95? That would have made an interesting assault rifle, but I really like the Type 56 very much. All these scrubs who think the Ak-101 is God... pffff.

They're not the only weapons in the game that are a bit dated.

The G3 and the PKM are pretty ancient, by modern firearm standards.

And the SRAW and Eryx are Cold War-era weapons that us poor BF2 anti-tankers are supposed to deploy against those 21st centruy tanks....

It's mostly done for stylistic reasons, I'd guess. Poor research may have some to do with it, as may a desire to include the AK-47 (what respectable shooter doesn't have one of those available?).

It's done this way because the whole game is just a giant military "paper-rock-scissors" and giving scopes to every weapons would unbalance things a bit. It's just the same reason that the only automatic sniper rifle has horrible recoil and takes some practice to aim, and why the different classes have different amounts of armor and sprint.

If they wanted to be realistic, everyone on the USMC would have an available m16, while most people wouldn't carry a sidearm.

Hell, if we are talking realistic, then the medic basically sucks because lord knows that the shock paddles are far from unrealistic.
