Well, seeing as how Psp's thread about his new car has sparked alot of attention, it dawned on me that there are probably alot of gear heads who love cars/trucks here. So why not have a thread where we can talk?

If this flies (which I hope it will), this can be the place to talk about your car. Talk about the parts, ask questions, and get the general knowledge and opinions about certain upgrades, etc.

Who wants to start?

You should pull a 2.4 I-4 from another wrecked cavalier or something and drop it in there.  I dont think it'd cost much if you sell the 2.2 I-4 you got in it.  That's were I'd start with your Cavalier, Bigmack.

Well, actually I had this planned out.

Seeing as how the engine only has 24,000 on it, I plan to leave it in for a while (no sense in pulling out an engine that still has life in it, or at least that's what I believe). Bolt ons for now.

Then I'll drop a 2.0L Ecotec Supercharged I-4, mated to a 5 speed manual, and add a high friction clutch.

Then suspension adjustments and stiffening.

And whatever else I deem necessary at the time.

Just bought 'er for a nifty price.  Where can I buy chrome leg mounts and a sweet animal compatible radio for it?

My GSXR 600 does me fine and it shouldn't need a tune because it still flogs brand new WRXs and V8's

lol, GSXR's are nice bikes.

I can imagine what you'd do to a punk in an STI who thought he was "all that".

The look on their faces is priceless!

I drive a 1995 Chevy Caprice, 9C1 (old cop car). It's basically the same as the 95' Impala SS as it looks the same and has the LT1 just as the Impala does.

It's got 240HP (or more now after doing minor exhaust work), and 330ft/lbs of torque. Yes, that means it'll beat your standard 92 civic hatchback, 95 4 door dodge neon, and all those other douchebagmobiles (Um, no offense to anyone here if they drive one, but I hate em' .

I was thinking of getting a nice cold air intake system for it, but I'm not quite up on what good brands are for that kind of equipment. I know it'll add a little horsepower, and make it sound a little better as well, but I'm not quite sure what exactly to get. Any ideas?

Here it is if anyone wants to see it     ***Note, the pic was taken before I got 2 squared chrome tips, and a nice set of rally wheels***

I'm no expert but I've seen a few cars in my time. I have a friend who built his own airbox. It really wasn't hard and he used shit he had laying around his house.

He bought a K&N air filter thing (about $85), removed his old airbox, and cut up an old big screen TV (for the plastic). He measured everything and drilled holes for the sscrews. It wasn't a complete hillbilly job ( I know it sounds bad). It took him about 2 hours from start to finish and it actually did make a little difference in performance. I'm sure you could find parts pretty easily if you wanted to make your own. Cold air is key.

Technically, cold air isn't key. All that matters is air flow. I've seen dyno runs with cars that have CAI (Cold Air Intakes) and RAI (Ram Air Intakes) and they are vitrually the same. Sure, the colder air gives you a denser charge, but the air will already be dense from its passing through the filter into the intake.

As for those Capries, my cousin owns one. That 5.7L makes some crazy torque.

One thing though, is it FI or running a carb?

Okay.

Well upon minorly exhausting my search abilities, I haven't been able to find any true replacement air intake systems. So I'd suggest picking up a high flow filter. K&N is good, or so I've heard. I personally run a Fram Air Hog. Price depends on what'll fit your car.

There is the possiblitiy that you would make your own intake, but that's purley up to you. My advice would be to keep the intake equipment and add a new filter, or....

It's a Powerdyne SilentDrive Belt Drive Supercharger. That puppy runs at 6 psi and has a custom fit, RAIS attached to it. Not bad for $6000.

Why modify FWD grocery getters at all?  They will get worse gas mileage.

Actually, when you mod grocery getters the right way, you not only gain power, you get improved fuel mileage.

Running effecently does so much for an engine.
