Fuck Israel
Do you guys like early 2000's emo music?

no.
But there are instrument and singing. Not just beeps.

I'm not really into folk stuff, my brother is, and linked me this track which I think is pretty cool

i love instrumental music. i listen to lots of bands, instrumentalists, and singers.SuperJail Warden wrote:

there is just nothing to recommend about that particular wave of MTV emo music. there was a generation of emo music before it, in the 1990s, which maybe has a few redeeming elements, and a few good bands. there was a hardcore scene in d.c. and boston that would wipe the floor with emo.
why would a grown man want to listen to some men in drummer-boy soldier outfits wailing about 'not being okay'? it's asinine.
do you have a panic at the disco tattoo? it's stuff for 14 year old girls.

Yeh it gets the blood pumping pretty good honestly. It's some experimental folk band that uses actual bones, primitive drums & horns to make music. Texts are proto germanic, old norse etc. It's cool, I'm sure they'd make a good background soundtrack to a TV show or game series.SuperJail Warden wrote:

That said the actual scene is cringe if you ask me. The crowd at these sort of things is like this mishmash of (death)metal and folk enthusiasts who probably write fantasy fanfic on tumblr or something. That, and Breivik types.
imagine calling people artistic as a pejorative and pretentious and then talking rhapsodically about a band that uses 'actual bones' and 'old norse texts' to make music.

I think my last sentence balances out the praise quite nicely.
this is well-produced dark music. your neo-folk old norse bone-rattling stuff is rubbish. it sounds like rubbish.
Pls we already agreed in the past that johann johannsson was very good. I'd pick him or maybe some of alexandre desplat's work if it's about moody dark music.
These folk guys are fine in the context of what they're trying to do. If the idea is to give a soundtrack inspired by Europe 5000 BCE I reckon they're not doing a bad job.

old norse was 600 AD not the last ice age. cool that they produce music 'using actual bones'. you must be very new to sound design. people sample and field record things all the time. it's perfectly quaint how you're impressed by these things. WoaH robert glasper incorporates BEAT-MAKING techniques! these people use OLD NORSE TEXTS!!!!
i don't know how you can listen to such poorly produced rubbish. do you have good headphones or even half-decent speakers or what? that track you linked sounds like amateurish, poorly mixed, barely mastered rubbish. it's aural mud.
A/B that song with the Raime or Haxan Cloak track. if you can't tell the difference in production standards and quality then you are out of your fucking little bird-brained head. cheeep cheeep cheeep

Fascination with Norse and Viking iconography is a big red flag. That stuff is weirdly more wrapped up with modern Nazism than literal Nazism. If some German started to talk to me with the accomplishments of the Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front I am going to really dig talking to them about that stuff. If some guy from NJ showed up to the PTA meeting with a viking beard and rune tattoos I am going to assume he is into that stuff for other reasons than fascination with the Kievan Rus.

yeah the neo-folk scene is basically 60% neo-nazis. lots of bands flirt with nazi iconography, like the SS runes, etc. nobody calls them out on it. it's like LARPer sub-warhammer fascist-flirting nonce-sense.

neo-folk is a genre that flirts with fascist and nazi imagery a lot.

just like how in lots of fantasy lit you get edgelord fascists. donald trump as the warhammer emperor. there's a big crossover. all these people are basically roleplaying when they make their cringe as fuck 'celtic' music or 'old norse epics' or whatever. it's always tied into infantile reactionary fantasies about 'ein volk' or 'the motherland' or something.

^ this is true. Among the fanbase there's an enormous draw to people who fetishize 'authentic' histories which usually quite easily blends in with ethnonationalism.
e.g.
coincidentally also produced and mixed/mastered like absolute pure shit. i guess not many talented producers or mastering engineers work with the neo-folk scene. all their recorded music sounds like hot garbage.

I don't even get how people get so deep into that that they make it an identity that bleeds into the rest of their lives. I mean I could get wanting to see your culture flourish but at the same time there is just so much other stuff from non-North German culture that is good to consume/experience. I am a level 40 Catholic Paladin but I like some Islamic Nasheeds.uziq wrote:

A lot of non-Catholic places have great cuisine too. A pretty girl my age with a hijab, slim body, and a pretty face would make me curious what she has hiding under there.

the hell are you talking about. you've never left new jersey. 'non-catholic cuisines'.
NJ has as diverse cuisine as NYC or London. This ain't Idaho.

yeah, okay. authentic 'catholic' cuisine.
