Commanders,

I write to you today with a very special request. If we're in the middle of a battle, and each team has very few tickets left (like around 10 or so, happens a lot while I play Karkand), DO NOT, under any circumstances decide to artillery the area where the main battle is happening.

When tickets get this low, every single death counts. Today I was having a great karkand round and I knew we could win it since we had just come back from 10-30 to 9-9. I was ecstatic, joyful, flaunting our imminent victory to the enemy and being as arrogant as one can be. Suddenly, our commander's artillery hits us dead on in battle. I swear that there must've been at least 8 tk's  and no enemy kills from this unnecessary artillery, and that caused us to lose the round 2-0. I hate to admit it, but I think I cried a little bit. (Just a lil).

So in short, unless you can guarantee no teamkills will come from your artillery, refrain from using such devices when tickets are so low and we can smell the sweet air of victory. Otherwise, you can say goodbye to that 2x multiplier, and I won't be a happy camper.

Thanks for your understanding, I know if i try hard enough I can learn to trust you again with those big toys. It can be tempting sometimes to blast all those little dots, no matter what color they are, but I know you will make the right decision.

Sincerely,
GotMex.

I hope you don't mind me adding to this. Sorta appeal to commanders.

DO NOT leave/quit being a commander halfway. Godammit, if you are not up to it, do not apply to be one. I'm sick of seeing commanders leaving their post after our side starts losing or when his toys (UAV, Radar, Arti) craps out. FIGHT, REPAIR and hang on to the end.

Its worse enough that your team is losing, but to suddenly request for supply drops and to be notified that your own commander chicken out, thats downright demoralising.

got my first real taste of commander earlier tonight. 3 rounds of karkand followed by a round of songhua. karkand went fine, uav's running 24/7 with an occasional jump out of the commander screen to shotty someone dumb enough to walk all the way down to the us base. ended all 3 rounds in the upper 70's and 80's. but when the server changed to songhua it was a different story. i was spending almost half my time defending the us main base flag and repairing equippment because no one else would do it. and then when i was killed and the flag capped, some asshole has the NERVE to try and chide me over voip "you'd better start doing your job commander". i was like what the fuck? i can't defend repair and capture every single square foot of the entire map by myself. this same douchebag later in the round repeatedly sents requests for artillery on the last chinese flag, failing to notice all the us players in and around the area. his reasoing? "omg half the chinese team is there". yeah, and so was half of the us team. not to mention that it would burn an artillery strike that i might need if a ninja went to one of the back flags.

argh. freedomeagle and some numbers, i forget. next time i see him he's going to get run over...

Are you providing the entire story?

It doesn't make sense to me why a commander would shell his own team that is winning a skirmish.

It also doesn't make sense to me why a team wouldn't fall back out of the area being artilleried.

a lot of Commanders would rather see the extra kills in their stats than let the "grunts" fight it out.  I do agree though, if you see the arty symbol, pull back and prepare to rush after the last one falls...

Happened to me this morning...tickets were 0-0 at the end of the arty strike and US won anyway. :-|

Anyway, arty strikes should be surgically placed...and a good commander will place the arty BEHIND the enemy to keep them between a rock and a hard place...no retreats...

for one, arty takes time to hit. when he called it, maybe things looked a little different. for two, maybe he didnt have his map zoomed all the way in; sometimes you cant have it that way all the time. sometimes, i see enemies head towards a flag, and when i see the flag go neuter, i dont check for allied people there, i tend to drop the arty as soon as it gets neutered.

second, i often leave the command post when nobody is following my commands, and when there are no squads. i get frustrated, because it seems that all they want is automated arty/UAV/supply, where they want it, when they want it, and the commander better be telepathic and omnipotent, because they dont want to ask for it, they want it to already be there. these same people, oftentimes, never squad, and never give a damn about what the commander has to say.

If you were in a squad and you were not warned of the artillery stike, then that commander was an idiot.I understand that every teamkill is a lost ticket. It seems no one pays attention to the mini map so I try to warn all squads in advance.Which can be a pain in the ass when you have like 9 squads to right click on scroll down and warn.Warning all the squads is necessary becuse many don't stay with their squadleader. You can't just go by the squad numbers on the command screen.
As a commander I have 2 request to the lone wolfs, join a squad and pay attention to your mini map.
