If you need it to be easily portable you are gonna have to pay te premium and get a good laptop. If you don't need to carry it around with you all the time then a desktop will give you more gaming bang for your buck.

Personally, with you being at Uni I'd have said a laptop would be the better idea but there are obvious limitations like no upgradability, poorer gaming spec when compared to the same cost for a desktop.

What do you need most?
The laptop for mobile advance or do you work/game just at home?
I suggest a Desktop anyway so put your info on a disc/floppy and take it to uni where they have public pc's.

I bought a laptop for uni in the first year, and it lasted that long - a year.  The premium you pay for portability over specs and future upgrades for an equivilent desktopis a hefty one - it depends on how mobile you need to be; but do yourself a favour and if you get a laptop don't use it on a train - as you look like a berk.

Vote goes on desktop.

I would say desktop, infact I voted for it, but if u need it for work then its a bit tricky bringing a whole tower with u every day!  So perhaps portability is key, like the gentlemen said ^^^ depends how portable u need to be,  if that is a must then its a no brainer you need your laptop.

Nah man you're gonna need a laptop.  Grades > Gaming

Trust me i got a BA, MA and MSc (Durham and Liverpool) and being able to take my laptop into uni was invaluable, just don't lug it around with you 24/7.

What is your budget?

Definitly a pc, if you really need something just for on the road or whatever you could get a laptor basically just enough for internet access and word processing. For better performance and overall niceness you will get more bang for your buck with the pc, which imo is more important than the mobility.

These guys are amazing.....they build some evil machines and the support is first class.
I know the owners and they started the company because they were pissed with the shoddy machines other companies were sending out and their terrible "not our problem" support!

If you want quality, excellent support and trouser-shitting speed give them a try.

On the other hand, if you want a laptop avoid any FUJITSU-SIEMENS shitty machines.
They all (yes, every single model in the range!!!) have serious problems with overheating and crack within months!
And the funny thing is......Fujitsu say it is your problem and won't honor the warranty!
There are forums with literally thousands of people complaining about them and FS couldn't give a flying fuck.

AVOID FUJITSU SIEMENS

And whatever laptop you do get.....make sure you you get a 3 year warranty

I started to configure one, 3k is where it starts. By the time i was done I was up to $7,023. The "m2010" must be the year they expect you to declare bankruptcy.
