So far I'm pushing 2500 3dmarks with 05 my current system is;

ASUS A8N-SLi Deluxe
1gb Corsair XMS TWINX 2-3-3-6 CAS 2
74gb 15k RPM U320 IBM SCSI
eVGA 7900GTO
AMD 64 3000+
Thermaltake Tsunami Dream Tower
Thermaltake Purepower Silent 580w PSU
20.1" Samsung 2048BW

Today as I was sitting at work, I made a bit extra on my paycheck for some overtime. I decided to upgrade

New CPU: FX-55 San Deigo
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6819103526

A free 250gb SATA2 hdd that came with the CPU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6822148111

A Zalman CPU cooler
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6835118223

Some more Artic Silver
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6835100007

Another gig of the RAM I already had Corsair XMS TWINX
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6820145449

Does anyone think these new upgrades will make much of a performance? The FX-55 is clocked at 2.6ghz stock, I'm sure I can get it to 3.2 EAAASY.

The CPU will def help, but be sure to set BF2 to run on one core, while everything else runs on the other one.  BF2 isn't very dual-core friendly.  The RAM is also a good upgrade.

On another note, anyone know if they make Socket 754 dual-cores?  I'm pretty sure they don't, just wondering.

What exactly do you mean by setting BF2 to run on a single core? I know most games are not dual-core friendly, I know FX-55 was a way better idea than going for the X2 procs for gaming.

Boot up BF2, Tab-Alt to desktop, and Alt/Crl delete.  Find you BF2.exe under processes, right click on it and set your affitivity.  You'll see CPU 0 and CPU 1 checked, just uncheck CPU 1, so that your only running one processor.

That Zalamn cooler is the best thing next to water cooling.  VERY quiet and great performer.

You dont have to set it to run on one core, AMD came out with a "patch" and it runs fine now. But it may just be for socket am2 (i have an fx62). try the AMD site, see if thet have them for the fx55.

Edit: Neverminf the fx55 is single core. D'OH

That's what I was thinking, that's why I asked what he meant by make it run single core. That's the whole point I got a FX-55 is cuz no developers code X2 yet.

Yes I know the multiplier isn't locked, so that means you can bring up up as much as possible as long as it stays cooled.

No it doesn't mean that at all, it's the basic point is; you won't utilize the full potiential of the proc. Why would you pay more for something you can't use when you can just get a single core at a cheaper price and OC it.
