So, I got into computers around March this year and have learned alot!! It is kinda fun and I like the games that goes along with the high tech computers.

I know there is this big debate: ATi or nVidia. Intel or AMD. Asus or GIGABYTE.

Well, I'll answer the ATi vs. nVidia thing once and for-all. (Not really, lol, just my opinion. )

OK, so when I first got my computer in July, I had an ATi X300(*/800)... Meh, it played medium with some lag, so I kept it on low and it ran low like a champ. Then I saved up some money to get a new one. One that will play on all high and then some.

Well, I thought I had got one to that effect. nVidia 7600GT(590/1600). It is my baby. The first graphics card I installed by myself. And a good one too. It runs all high, 1280x1024 reso. fine. AA lags me though...

Then my friend got a MAJOR upgrade on his computer (spoiled little bitch. ) so he loaned me his old X800(475/1000). I have been using it for the past few days, and even though it has double my bandwith, I dont really see a difference. Plus, the graphics on ATi are always... a bit... weird.

So, now I just played a round on my 7600GT again and it ran amazingly. I love it. I am glad I am sticking with nVidia.

Of all the nVidia cards I have played on (7600GT, 6800XT, 7800GTX, 7900GTX) they have all pwned ATi's(X300, X1300*, X800GTO, X1900XTX) face and looked alot better(ATi has this weird fuzziness on the desktop that pisses me off. Not prob, it just irks my OCD.)

So, nVidia is the way to go. If your looking for a new graphics card, then go nVidia, ATi is going out of retail business pretty soon(1 year - 2years) anyway.

Sumed up: nVidia has outperformed all the ATi graphics card that I have played with, even with out being better on paper. ex. my 7600GT : X800GTO. X800 has double bandwith but still not as beastly as the 7600GT.

There we go. Had to get that out...

Not so much. All low, 1024x768 still lands me on about 35 FPS with a minor overclock.

It's not a big burly piece of gamer bliss, but then again, neither is my system.

While I applaud learning about PCs, I am not so sure I understand your arguement. And x800 will be beat by a 7600. The x800 does have a higher memory bandwith but the pixel pipelines and shaders on the 7600 are far better. The x800 was released FAR before the 7600.

Uhh... no?
XFX 7600GT
POWERCOLOR X800GTO
Same Pixel pipelines. 12
The x800 beats 7600 in bandwith.
7600 beats x800 in clock speeds.

OK, far better? How? Are the pipelines different? Explain please.

The X800GTO doesn't have twice the memory bandwidth as a 7600GT. I has twice the memory bus (256bit vs. 128). The actual bandwidth is 31.36(X800GTO) vs. 22.4(7600GT).

You'd have to go with a X1900 XT before you'd find an ATI card that doubles the 7600GT's memory bandwidth.

I went down the same road.
Purchased PC with x300 in it, played BF2 just fine.  Upgraded to x800, bumped settings to high= even more BF2 enjoyment.

When comparing video cards, remember the old adage of apples and oranges, and check the full details.  The x800 series came out May 2004, isn't the 7600GT a 2006 product?.  Also you said you were playing x800GTO, which does have 12 pixel pipelines, but most of the x800 cards have 16.  It also matters what you are doing with your card, lots of people swear by Nvidia for gaming, but ATI is better for DVD & videos.

They're getting out of the major retail market after the first couple fo directx10 cards. Then they are going to small business and workstation graphics if i am correct.

They will still be in the major GFX card market but they will be concentrating more on the integrated graphics core (Fusion) or IGCPU

When AMD replied to all of the latest rumors they announced that they would keep putting out high-end graphics cards under the ATI/Radeon brand names.

There is simply too much money sitting in the high-end and ultra high-end areas to just drop out of. That would result in them losing millions upon millions of dollars within a very short period. I'm not saying they won't ever stop producing high-end graphics cards, but if they do it won't be for atleast like 4 years.

Once the "Fusion" platform (CPU & GPU in same package) hits nobody really knows what will happen from there. We can expect those to start being tested about 2 years from now.

Well I was mistaken on the Pixel Pipelines. While the 7600 has 5 vertex shaders, the GTO has 6, but the 5 that the 7600 has are far more efficient and support SM3.0. Trust me, the number you read on the spec sheet means jack shit now a days. Look the number of Pixel Pipelines on a x1900 compared to a 7900. Far less, yet this chip can rival it.

But basically you are comparing apples to oranges. the 7600 Was release FAR after the x800 core. You should be comparing the 6800 to the x800.

I have a Radeon x850xt (256mb).  Runs everything on high with very little lag if any (lag is probably due to only 1GB of DDR2).  I upgraded it from a 6800GT that pissed me off because it kept have memory leak problems.

Wow, what a biased review...

In my opinion, ATi smokes nVidia. Every card ATi has, completely decimates it's counterpart.

ATi Radeon x1900xtx vs. nVidia GeForce 7800GT - 7900GTX......it beats that whole line. It even beats the 7950GT. The nVidia GeForce 7950GX2 is the only nVidia card that will beat it's ATi counterpart, and even then it's close. The only reason it beats it is because it's basically two cards in one...the ATi Radeon x1950xtx is a single-GPU card, with half the RAM the 7950GX2 has.

The R600 will have nearly twice the pixel pipelines that the G80 will have.

ATi [pwns] nVidia

By the way, unlike your opinion, I look at the fact books. I have nothing wrong with nVidia, and they do make good cards..... but ATi makes better ones.
