When i boot up, i get past the windows XP loading screen onto the black screen (The one before the blue screen where you push CTRL + ALT + DELETE etc) and my computer reboots, before it reboots i can here the disc in my DVD drive i think spinning, but then it slows down and my comp reboots! The only way i can get round this is by booting up in safe mode and then restarting... Any help with be greatly appreciated...

thanks again

Take the DVD out and see if it boots.

If you CAN get into safe mode, how about reading the log files from the previous boot from there ?
Most likely you have some program or missing file causeing havoc. You can remove/restore that from safe mode.

Try taking the CD out first, though. This has happened to me before with a CD in the drive, it (for some odd reason) just wouldn't boot, and had the same symptoms you are describing.

Well, opposed to just taking the DVD out I don't think that's a valid solution. Why don't you first enter system BIOS and make sure your boot priorties are set straight. Make sure your Hard Disk is placed as the first boot device so it'll bypass this whole scenerio, if it boots with no problem that's the issue. Albeit if it doesn't boot correctly "I'm sure it wont" I'd boot with the process you've been doing before, when you gain access to Safe Mode check msconfig.
Start > run > msconfig

Click the startup tab and see if there are any crazy types of applications trying to load, normally such as; program.exe. you can take EVERYTHING off at boot time with msconfig the system daemons will boot none-the-less.

Have you installed any applications recently, if so; try removing them and rebooting.
Generally when you have an issue like this that happens so abruptly it's a sure-tell sign of a hardware malfunction. I recommend running diagnostic tools such as diskdr and memtest86 to see if your system is running at optimal performace. First start with the BIOS solution I posted to see if it will boot normally, please post your findings here so I can stay updated I will be more than willing to help, if you have more info it'll be much more helpful.

Ok, before you go and do a complete reinstall I would do this;

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=875350

Just try to remove SP2, turn off automatic updates.

Download the SP2 for IT professionals (so you don't have to wait for M$ to send it to you)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta … laylang=en

Reinstall SP2 that way ^^^^^^

If this doesn't end the issue I'd say some sort of device is faulty, I'd proceed to rule that out. Post any results mate.
