I just bought a new computer and for some reason any new program or window that I bring up takes about 5 to 7 seconds to bring up. I don't think that its the hardware since it has 2 GB's of RAM and a Core duo, so I was wondering if there is anything I can do to fix this?

yea. check your compatibility.
i dont think that its the RAM since when I am using the program it runs fine, and its a store bought so I didnt build it

Since it's a new store bought system I'll bet there's quite a lot of useless software pre-installed and just as many unnecessary processes running. Uninstall anything you won't use and kill any nonessential processes.
