well before i had reformatted bf2 ran ok. but after the reformat its all laggy (lag spike feeling) and really unplayable i updated all my drivers ran several scans for viruses/spyware and didn't have any. also made sure BF2 was the only thing running and nothing else in the back round taking up band-with/ram. so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Whats your network type (wireless or ethernet?) I have heard that XPs wireless manager sucks. Try using your wireless NIC manager instead. If that fails then use ethernet (i did. I had lag spikes when I was using wireless, so I went back to using ethernet and viola no more lag spikes.

I had a similar issue just a few days ago. My comp crashed, and I needed to do the ol' "format c:\".
After formatting and reinstalling a shitload of stuff, I noticed a stutter in the video feed and 3d rendering. Every few seconds, the picture would halt for a millisecond, making gameplay frustrating if not impossible.
After trying everything, I did a full format yesterday, and installed the original graphics card driver first, before updating it with Catalyst 6.10 (Yes, I have a Radeon). Now it works just fine, no stutter or anything.
So do I know exactly what's wrong? No. Do I feel your pain? Yes.
So my advice is: Before you add more stuff on your PC, do a full format (the slow version), and put the original GPU-driver in first before upgrading. Worked for me.

The original being the one that came on the CD with your graphics card (or one from the manufacturers website)

The newest drivers seem to be more geared towards the new cards and there SLI compatability. They have shown no increase to any AGP cards and have actually caused alot of problems for AGP card users. If you are still running an AGP card or a Nvidia GS version of a card, your better off going with 84.?? for nvidia, and 6.3-6.7 for ATI. They seemed to like all the cards and games.
