Ive just upgraded from 1GB stock ram to 2gb Crucial Ballistix ram. So what do I do now? I know my way around my PC but is there anything I need to know? Cheers boys!

enjoy ur new speed and "high" settings in BF2
make sure you ground yourself by touching the plugged in psu before you do anything. also remember to open the "levers" for the ram. i know a guy who didnt do that and broke the ram in 2. it wasnt a pretty sight. also make sure you install your ram into the 2nd channel. installing ram is pretty straight forward.
EDIT: oh yeah, remeber to switch off the psu (so no energy runs in the pc) but leave it plugged in (so that everything is grounded)

install your ram in 2 sockets of the same colour this will enable dual channel mode.....
might not sound orthodox, but leaving your pc plugged in a great way to stay grounded (if you don't have a grounding strap). Obviously you would leave the pc's power offmax wrote:

Also if you have explicitly set timing in bios, etc .. make sure you set everything to auto in bios before swapping chips.

After the RAM is installed, make sure you OC it in BIOS!

DDR2 RAM doesn't run at it's potiental at stock speeds, after it's installed I'd research OCing it's DRAM timings.buLLet_t00th wrote:

Just make sure the slot in the middle of the DDR is lined up with the slot on the DIMM slots. Are these sticks 2x1gb? if so; make sure you put them in the DUAL CHANNEL mode. First stick in slot one, second stick in bank2 slot 3. So you'll have a stick in slot one, skip a slot another stick > another open slot.
OK, picked it up today and installed it fine, ran OK first time, but with both 1GB sticks in it fails to go past the windows loading screen. It then just crashes and restarts. I've got a 550 watt psu and that may be the problem. I've got one of the sticks in at the mo but Im just wondering if anybodys got a quick solution?
Did you try both sticks, one at a time, to rule out a bad stick?
Try clearing CMOS.
You can do that by either moving the "Clear CMOS" jumper to the clear CMOS position (which is usually pins 2-3, but refer to your motherboard manual) or by removing the small watch-type battery for about 15 seconds.
Also, put both sticks in and hold TAB as soon as you turn your computer on, until it reaches the POST test to make sure all the RAM is being accounted for.

Don't forget to pull the plug from the PSU when you clear CMOS, after you've moved the jumpers and waited a minute or so, place the jumpers back to the original state, and plug the power cord in your PSU attempt to boot. Also; look in BIOS to see if it's posting your RAM.CrazeD wrote:

build up as much static electricity as you can for grabbing the ram
Well if I don't have grounded things(electrical socket maybe. don't have the word) where I put the powerplug does it matter if its unplugged or not? cause in our house only grounded socket is outside.jsnipy wrote:

Still being gay and dosen't work together. Each one works on its own, I've got it supported up to 4gb at 1gb per slot so thats not a problem. Any other suggestions or does anybody want to buy a stick of RAM?

are your 2 crucial 1gb sticks the only sticks you have in there? i know some boards wont run an odd number of sticks. other than that i have no idea. i've always been able to plug it in and get em working.
