Xbox 360 > PS3

Here's why:

The Xbox 360 has been out for a year and already has an impressive gaming library. The Xbox 360, just today, has set a new standard for next-gen gaming with their release of Gears of War. Additionally, the Xbox 360, just like the Xbox, has the best online gaming plan. It's centralized structure makes it very easy to communicate and play with your friends online. Do not let the PS3's "free online" fool you. The PS2 also had free online gaming, but it suffered from abysmal support. Because it relies on third parties, and not a centralized structure, it will be very difficult to contact and play with your friends. Part of the reason is due to ambiguity concerning which handle the server uses: your PS3 one, or one specific to that game? There was an article released a few days ago about this. Xbox Live, on the other hand, has a huge userbase with countless games and tons of developer support.

Contrary to popular belief, the PS3 does not have "better graphics". If you compare original footage released by Sony to actual gameplay footage recently released, you will notice an extreme drop in quality (take Metal Gear Solid 4, for example). These are the same kinds of promises that Sony made to us with the PS2 and its over-hyped "Emotion Engine" (Toy Story graphics, anyone?). There is nothing developed or currently in development for the PS3 that is graphically superior to Xbox 360's Gears of War. Also, the Cell chip, like the Emotion Engine, is a gimmick. The PS3 is only marginally more powerful than the Xbox 360, but vastly more difficult to develop for. The Cell chip's yields are also surprisingly low. Only 10%-20% of all Cell chips produced are up to standards to use in the PS3. Not to mention Sony is implementing Blu-Ray, which is losing the format war to HD-DVD and will probably fail horribly (remember UMD movies on the PSP?).

And then we have the issue of price. The Xbox 360's core and premium versions are $200 cheaper than Sony's respective offerings. Why more pay for an inferior console with inferior games and a losing format? If money is no object, get an Xbox 360 and a Wii.

If you still have your doubts, watch this:

In response to Pollux's post:

PS2 online had more users than XBL in its generation and at one point had more SOCOM users than M$ had XBL members.

Here's an interesting article about PS3 online and how it will be similar (if not better) than XBL
