the expensive one is a gigabit router. It transfers data at a much faster rate than the 10/100 router. Is it necessary? only if you have a huge network and need the speed for alot of computers.

EDIT: but keep in mind that your internet connection will never be as fast as the cheaper 10/100 router so you wont notice the difference becuase your internet connection is the bottleneck and not the router. The only reason you would need this is if you had a huge lan party (and if you do invite me)

Go with the 10/100 router, it would server for what you are using if for, if that is just to connect multiple computers to a network.  If you are pushing a lot of data, and I mean a lot, and you do not want it to take long, then the gigabit would be nice. 

If you do get the gigabit router, and your PC does not have a gigabit card you are basically wasting your money because you will only get 100 Mbps out of it at tops.  Also, your ISP probally is not offering a Gbps transfer so you will not see a benefit there either.
