Quite an odd setting. I have 2 computers in my house, about 10 feet from eachother. We share a modem, so one is unplugged so the other can use the internet. At about 11:30 PM last night, the internet, simply, stopped working. No webpages would load, no 2142, no xfire, no bittorrent, nothing. Everything is plugged in, the modem detects the ethernet cord AND the internet input, but my computer doesnt recieve or send any packets thru the connection. On the other computer, however, the internet works fine (which is why I am typing this right now)

Anyone have ideas?

Try calling your internet Provider.

Affermative.

My DSL carrier (SBC/Yahoo) They told me that the internet was on at my connection, but other than that, they are of no help, and will be terminated.

You running PeerGuardian (or anything else that will interfere with your LSAs)? (I have had issues with PG and LSAs getting screwed up which is why i run in with vip/vm)

Did you confirm packets are not getting through (sniffer, etc)?

Also can you ping an ip vs name (see if its a dns issue)

It's gotta be that first computer.  Try reinstalling drivers, the usual antivirus, spyware shit.  I don't know, never heard this one...

No packets are being sent, I've confirmed that.

And how would I go about checking for DNS issues (sorry, I am not good with internet connections at all)

in a command window ...

Code:

ipconfig /flushdns
ping google.com
then try

Code:

ping 64.233.187.99

So when you go to your adapter in the network connections, let me guess does it say Connected, Limited or no Connectivity? Also, you didn't specify if you had a router or not, if so; does this router use DHCP (assigns IP automagically)? If so, I would take all of your PC's down, power-cycle the modem/Router bring the modem up first until all of the lights are back to the normal state, bring the router up, boot the PC's. If you don't use DHCP, the network device could have lost it's settings, put the information back into the devices properties, all should be well. If not, I'd try to replace the Cat it could be a factor as well, post some more information so we can help, being so vague is hard to diagnose the problem. -A tech's nightmare
